Quite the contrast to Burnham who despite being blocked on clearly factional grounds in Gorton & Denton, campaigned constantly for the Labour candidate there. It’s almost like some of these people don’t care for anyone or anything outside their immediate faction…
lee harpin@lmharpin

Understand that a significant number of Labour MPs have made it known that were Burnham and his allies able to engineer a by-election they would refuse requests to campaign for him.

Establishing detention centres is a necessary and legitimate part of an anti-illegal immigration policy. I’ve argued that since way before Reform was even a thing. However, determining the location of migrant detention centres not on the basis of public safety and operational expediency but on the basis of political retribution or vindictiveness is nothing to do with ending illegal immigration. It is everything to do with anti-democratic authoritarianism. By the way, Nigel Farage has a home in Lydd, in a district run by a Green-LibDem coalition. I live in the same district. I think you can rest assured that neither of us voted Green! This location policy isn’t serious. It wouldn’t contribute to ending illegal immigration, it is antagonistic and it doesn’t suggest a party that would or could govern effectively or responsibly. It is simply another piece of populistic political theatre.

🛑 TIME for hard ball on the migrant crisis. Radical @reformparty_uk plan to locate detention centres in Green Party constituencies is upsetting all the right people. They will get what they voted for!

This is not a serious way of doing politics. There will be many in Green constituencies who did not vote Green, and many in Reform constituencies who did not vote Reform. No government should set public policy with the purpose of punishing or rewarding an entire constituency on the grounds of which candidate it returned at the polls. Reform should withdraw this stupid commitment pronto.
Zia Yusuf@ZiaYusufUK

Today we announce a new policy: In order to deport all illegal migrants in Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of thousands at a time. Migrants will not be able to leave these detention centres, and each will be held there a couple of weeks before being deported. So here’s our promise: A Reform government will not put any migrant detention facilities in any constituency with a Reform MP. Nor will we put them where Reform controls the council. And of the remaining areas, we will prioritise Green controlled parliamentary constituencies and Green controlled councils to locate the detention centres. Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will. This is an important exercise in democratic consent, not just for our mass deportation policy, but for where the detention centres are placed. Given @ZackPolanski openly advocates for open borders, I look forward to their warm embrace of this policy. votegreengetillegals.com

BETRAYAL 800 illegals into Britain over a weekend. 71,000 since Starmer took power. Home Office paying £15bn to house these people over ten years. A serious country would spend £15bn protecting its borders. Do they even want the boats to stop?

🚨🎙️| Jamie Carragher on the impact of both Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke after each played 45 minutes against Fulham yesterday: 🗣️ “Sometimes we overcomplicate football, we start talking about systems, shapes, all of that… but yesterday was the clearest example, you had 45 minutes of Bukayo Saka and 45 minutes of Noni Madueke, and honestly, it looked like two different levels of the game. Saka starts, and everything makes sense. The tempo, the timing, the decision-making, he doesn’t waste football. He hurts you every single time he gets the ball. Goal, assist, always combining, always thinking one step ahead. That’s not just talent, that’s understanding the game at the highest level. That’s what top, top players do, they make it look simple because they’re decisive. Then you watch Madueke… and I’m not here to disrespect the boy, because he has ability, we can all see that. But ability without control, without intelligence in your decisions, it means nothing at this level. Too many touches, slowing the attack, dribbling into trouble when the pass is there. You beat a man okay, good but then what? Where is the end product? Where is the impact? This is the difference people don’t want to talk about. Saka plays for the team and still shines. Madueke plays for himself and the team suffers. That’s the reality. One is making the game easier for everyone around him, the other is making it harder. And let me tell you something, this is not a small gap, this is a huge gap. People will say ‘give him time’… time for what? At this level, you have to learn quickly or you get left behind. Because what Saka showed in 45 minutes is what elite football looks like. What Madueke showed… that’s potential, but football is not played on potential. So when people try to compare them, I shake my head. One is already delivering at a world-class level, the other is still trying to figure out when to pass the ball. And if that doesn’t frustrate you watching that game, then honestly, I don’t know what you’re expecting from top-level football.”

✡️ Where is the same energy for Jewish Brits that we had for Black Lives Matter? I started my political and media career during #BLM. I co-founded a right-wing anti-racist movement @Tories4Equality with @SiobhanAarons @Binita_MP @Johnny__Luk & @SteveBakerFRSA, with the support of @miriam_cates @Jeremy_Hunt @timloughton @halfon4harlow_ @Gibbo4Darlo @SallyAnn1066 & more, at the time it felt like - bar a few batty right-wingers - the whole country was behind black Brits in our hour of need. I don’t feel like the country has the backs of Jewish Brits in theirs. Where are the brands calling out antisemitism? The celebrities? The anti-antisemitism protests? It is reasonable to ask: do Jewish lives matter too? #Antisemitism #JewishLivesMatter

Behind every one of these buy-to-let sales is an eviction that in all likelihood wouldn’t have happened but for the Tory/Labour Renters’ Rights Act. Horrible for tenants. A loss to Landlords (and the Treasury). Nobody wins under bad legislation.
Cut My Tax@CutMyTaxUK

Landlords are bailing out. New research shows that some 254,000 buy-to-let properties in Britain came on to the market in the year to the end of March. That's 700 a day & it's an increase of 28% over 2024. Taxing & regulating landlords out of the market will result in tenants paying higher rents. It's such an obvious point but many politicians refuse to understand it.

No, Prime Minister. You could have banned hate matches. You could have banned pro-Iranian regime groups. You could have deported disgustingly antisemitic imams. You could have cracked down on mosques spewing Jew hatred. Instead you introduced an “anti-Muslim hate” definition.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

I am deeply concerned about the terrorist attack that took place today. This is not an isolated incident. It is the latest in a spate of utterly vile attacks on the Jewish community. I’ve just chaired an emergency COBR meeting and tomorrow I’ll be bringing together criminal justice agencies to ensure we have effective and swift justice.
