There's so much talk about Boston or Miami for Giannis. But Kawhi Leonard got sent to Toronto, Paul George to Oklahoma City, Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland. Surprise teams do trade for stars even without knowing if they'll stay long-term. Could there be a Giannis mystery team?

The sad part is, after watching the NBA Finals, it’s clear the Suns aren’t close to competing for a championship anytime soon. ☹️

Austin’s potential $40M/yr contract will have no bearing on their Cap Space this Offseason. He will only count for $20.9M (his caphold). LAL surely should offload Vando & Knecht to free up more Cap Space- But AR’s new contract has no bearing on that this Summer.
Evan Sidery@esidery

The Lakers are actively trying to find trade partners for Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt’s contracts to create even more cap space. With Austin Reaves’ new contract likely set to be above $40 million annually, Los Angeles will need more flexibility to make other moves.

@bstonercpa @NBAGeneralist_ Magic aren’t trading us Suggs for 1st while taking my back Vando. Suggs is a 1st, taking Vando is another 1st. Which is why we should stretch him. Also Philly isn’t letting Oubre & Grimes walk.

@Yinoma2001 Sorry not for that price, not even declining. There are other cheaper alternatives; we could get Grimes, Thybulle and Oubre for the same price. For this roster, it's a much better deal.

Lakers would be smart to try and absorb as many guys into their cap space from teams trying to offload helpful vets like this Mavs team
NBACentral@TheDunkCentral

The Mavericks are open to trading Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and Daniel Gafford, per @TheSteinLine “Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford, as we speak, are the veterans that the Mavericks are seen as most open to trading ... with Thompson drawing particular notice now that he's entering the final season of his current contract valued at $17.5 million in 2026-27.” (Via substack.com/redirect/2/eyJ…)

I can’t stop thinking about how terrible Jarrett Allen or Daniel Gafford would be on the Lakers. Just atrocious fits.

Joe Burrow says seeing his rookie signing bonus hit his account was one of the wildest moments of his life. “My rookie deal was worth about $36 million over four years, with everything guaranteed.” “My signing bonus alone was around $24.6 million.” “The first thing I did was call my financial advisor and ask, ‘What the hell happened?’” “I thought I was getting the full $24 million.” “Then I realized taxes had already taken a huge chunk of it.” “You look at the account and think, ‘Wait… where did the other $12 million go?’”

Draymond Green blasts $100,000 NBA fines: “This job ain't set up for us to be wealthy” “The amount of money we get fined for the things that we do, that shit don't happen in Corporate America” “You get fined $50,000 because you say something somebody don't like. 50 grand, that's real money. 100 grand. ‘Oh, he only got fined 100 grand.’ The fines to me don't make sense” “As hard as we work to accumulate wealth, coming from situations that most people never make it out. Then you get fined the way we get fined. It's actually not set up for us to be wealthy after we're done playing” "The way we're taxed, the way we're fined, this job ain't never been set up for us to be wealthy after we're done playing”

@bstonercpa @pelinkaburner I got no problem with your DayRon plan, I do feel Morez Johnson could fill that role behind RWIII & Hayes though

@pelinkaburner I still want DayRon Sharpe as backup to RW3, then put Hayes as 3rd guy and we done - all 3 for under $25m with youth, motor and athletiscm.

@bstonercpa I’ve been thinking about the value of that 2031 1st vs stretching Vando $5.1 for 5 years. If we can’t find a deal that makes sense to include him in I think I’d prefer to stretch than give away the 1st

@bstonercpa I enjoy the options you present. I don’t think we can get Chicago to take 2 years of Vando for a 2nd

I am doing another Laker roster build with the idea of adding more defense & athleticism to the bench, so replacing Kennard with Matisse Thybulle and still keeping LeBron, Luka, Austin, Rui, Smart, Hayes, Thiero & Bronny. Ayton opts out of his player option since he feels he can grab a Full MLE somewhere. *June 15-20 -meeting with LeBron - offering LeBron a 2 year $41.6m deal ($20m this year) with the explantions for using $40m of his max to help build up the team ($35m cap space to sign players & $5m to help extend Rui - without that discount we coudn't do either). Explain that we will give him time, but if past July 1 will renounce his cap hold but will keep the $20m available for him until Lakers have used all their other cap space on players, then need an answer. *June 23 before draft - agree in principal with the Nets to trade LaRavia, Dalton, the 2026 FRP (#25) & 2033 FRP for Josh Minott (6.8" 205lb Forward) & Day'Ron Sharpe (young 6'10" 265lb Monster). *June 29: Austin, Smart & Ayton opt out of their player options. *June 30: Lakers sign Rui to an extension of 4 yr $72.1m deal with first year $16m. *July 1 & beyond: Lakers renounce all old cap holds plus cap holds of LeBron, Kennard, Kleber & Smart, but not Austin or Hayes. Then Lakers trade their 2033 2nd pick to the Bulls as well as trading Jarred Vanderbilt's salary into their cap space. Lakers gain $12.4m cap space & now have net cap space of $60.8m. They set meetings and sign the following players to deals: Marcus Smart $10.3m, Keon Ellis $5m, Robert Williams III $12.3m & Kelly Oubre Jr ($13.2m), leaving $20.00m in cap space. Also on July 1, Lakers trade with Brooklyn for Day'Ron Sharpe & Josh Minott is finalized, and soon after LeBron accepts the Lakers offer and signs the $41.6m 2 year deal, exhausting Lakers Cap Space. *Then Lakers use their room exception of $9.4m to sign Matisse Thybulle. Jaxson Hayes agrees to a 2-year $12.5 m deal with bird rights ($6m due this year.) Austin Reaves agrees to a 5-year $205.3 m deal ($35m this year) and signs the deal. Ayton, Kleber, Kennard & Nick Smith Jr are all FA and find deals with other teams (or not). See the followup for Salaries, lineups and total cap info.
