@NYKCattle We have really good moisture conditions, actually almost bordering on too much. Probably had 10+ inches since May 15. Should grow through it

@roymacangus I've seen it mowed to ankle height by hail on the 10th of July and still make 17 tonn silage. You won't be able to tell.

Anyone have experience with hailed corn? What will this stuff do? Wind and hail damage.

We are going to use a home raised bull a little more this spring. Mostly because he’s leaving heifers that look like this.

@4FAngusBoy True. I'm amazed at how many average bulls I see sell for 5 digits.

What to do Home raised calf we really like. Haven’t incorporated his cow family into the cow herd yet Problem is he would be related to a bunch of the replacement heifers and half of them would have to be put in a different group. It’s doable What would it cost to replace him

@gbtangus It’s not that it’s unpopular. It’s the “ Im right and your wrong narrative”. There are a lot of bulls sold to commercial producers from seed stock operations that don’t fit your type of program. Obviously those people are doing something right or they wouldn’t be in business.

@roymacangus Not a popular opinion in seed-stock circles, I know. It’s unfortunate there is such a divide between what commercial producers need and pure-breeders want.

@NYKCattle Ya it definitely seems to be lacking moisture. Lots of leaves starting to curl and lose its colour a bit. I think ours was planted may 19. We hit 14.5 tonne last year. I’m think we might be 10-12 this year. See how the cobs fill I guess. What variety is yours?

@roymacangus 4" is pretty good! Not sure we have got that yet. This is in a swamp so lack of moisture is not usually a problem. We sowed this pretty early. First week of May.

Corn is a good 4' to 5' over my head now. More in places. Probably average about 9' to 10' across the field. Tasseling now. Not bad at all.

@NYKCattle Ya we hit it with 2 passes of roundup. This was definitely a missed spot lol. We are running on about 4 inches of rain this summer. Really uneven compared to last year. Some that’s 8ft tall and lots that’s waist high.

@roymacangus There's plenty that looks like that around here. Either you underseeded it or you could have used one more round of chemical by the look of it haha. Lots of time for it yet. Have you caught some rain lately?
