I know we complain but we’re almost 20 games in and half a game back of the American League. We could have won some games , but the offense is starting to kick it in gear and we have a chance to be a real good ball club this season, which could make us buyers at the deadline.

@Bmart0005 @tommy_yarrish Everyone is talking about trading 20 down but what about trading up with it and stick with 12. Asset cheap draft . We can trade up and still have 2 first round pics this year And with them trading one of next years already they know possibly it could be a worse player draft.

@roymazzy @tommy_yarrish I was just thinking yesterday that if say, Bain and Downs are there at 11, trade up from 20 to 11 and get both. Not too likely, but could still happen and we haven’t really explored this possibility.

Skip Schumaker talked at his introductory press conference about wanting an offense that grinds, works counts, and makes pitchers pay. @McFarland_Shawn reports that what we did against the Dodgers yesterday matched exactly what Schumaker described months ago. The numbers back it up. Josh Jung drew multiple walks. Danny Jansen drew 3 BBs. Evan Carter drew 2 BBs alongside his homer. Even Ezequiel Duran got on base. We didn't just out-pitch the Dodgers, we out-worked them. That is what makes this win different from the ones where deGrom carried us. We had 6 different hitters reach base. We scored in multiple innings. We made Dodgers pitching work for every out. Evan Carter's 139 wRC+ and 2 OAA in center gives us an elite top-two in the lineup with real two-way value. And Josh Jung's xwOBA is .296, which is better than his actual production has shown. That contact quality is starting to bleed into results. We're 8-7 and in first place in the AL West. The offense still needs more from Burger, Pederson, and Langford to fully buy in. But yesterday looked like what Skip said he wanted this team to be.
