@aliciaandrz I follow the same rules that I need to abide by for my employer. I don't need any documentation to take 5 days of sick leave in a row. I don't ask students for documentation unless they habitually miss deadlines and exams.

professors who ask for proof of medical emergencies or deceased family members need to stop. I’d rather one hundred students lie to me about dead grandmas & get away with it than force even one to send me an obituary when they’re grieving. it costs nothing to trust your students.

To be clear, this isn’t all UCSD’s fault, and it looks like the faculty have been doing what they can to address the issues but they can’t sustain it.
The math department and the report’s authors deserve a lot of credit for documenting the issues.

NEW: UC San Diego has released a new report documenting a “steep decline in the academic preparedness” of its freshmen.
The number of entering students needing remedial math has exploded from 1/100 to 1/8.
They’ve had to create a second remedial class covering elementary and middle school math skills in addition to the one covering gaps from high school.

@PeteButtigieg The ATC issue has been going on since Reagan when he broke the union. Every administration since then has kicked the can down the road, including Trump. Why would we expect someone to take responsibility for something he exacerbated.

The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

President Trump to air traffic controllers, who faced staffing shortages before the government shutdown and have been forced to work throughout it without pay: "...get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially 'docked'...For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU." (Flight delays have increased in recent days because more air traffic controllers were calling out sick due to not being paid during the 40+ day shutdown. The industry was already facing six-day work weeks before the shutdown due to staffing shortages and the amount of time it takes to train new controllers.)

@AmericanAir I hope my 4th flight trying to get home isnt cancelled. Have been trying to get MIA to PHX yesterday. My original flight cancelled. 2nd flight diverted from LAX to ONT and then the crew timed out. 1st new flight cancelled and the 2nd is delayed from 1255 to 823 pm

🚨 DELTA PILOT GRABS THE INTERCOM - AND SILENCES THE ENTIRE PLANE
“I know we probably have quite a few nervous flyers today…perfectly understandable. This aircraft doesn’t move an inch unless my co-captain Michael and I are absolutely certain it’s safe.”
Then he says the line that melts the cabin:
“Before I left the house, my little one just learned the word ice cream. She made me promise to get her some when I get home. Nothing, and I mean nothing unsafe comes between me, that little girl, and her ice cream.”
He tells everyone to text their families, pick their own ice cream spots, and relax.
Fear gone. Cabin silent.
Would you trust any pilot more than that?
