@miniapeur You can add an extra postdoc and triple the paper count for palaeontology... 😬

@PerAhlberg1 @CoastalPaleo @MaceNatHistory @chasmuseum The English word dolphin refers to a polyphyletic assemblage (based on morpho/ecotype) as it excludes e.g. beaked whales, no? ...So thus arguably a dolphin-morphotype stem odontocete could be referred to as a dolphin couldn't it?
English

@CoastalPaleo @MaceNatHistory @chasmuseum Looks wonderful, but how can it simultaneously be a dolphin and a stem odontocete? Dolphins are crown odontocetes - as indeed they must be, given that they are alive today.

I think a deep debate should be opened in Academia.
Most of us played at an enormous disadvantage environment that we never overcame. Some people must understand how difficult it is to work on what we love if we are not native English speakers.

@PolishPaleo @SVP_vertpaleo Asked @SVP_vertpaleo & they said it was an "already subsidized" cost! No chance to reduce it, & no funding available! Considering they are now asking for volunteers to run the online meeting, this seems outlandish...
English

@PolishPaleo @SVP_vertpaleo Totally hear you! I am really not sure what to do - it's seems like so much money which I direly need for research. ...Seriously considering one day registration...
English

Why is SVP so much this year?
Also, very hard to make a call for early bird when the abstract volume is not yet available. I may have be only able to go for one day based on costs.

@Culture_Crit (1) This is contemporary art, not modern art; (2) hardly any artist makes a decent living, let alone millions.

@Gritty20202 ...Would be interested to know the situation back in e.g. late 19th century before welfare state and when income inequality was similar to now - maybe similar?
English

@jabunna @milos_agathon Possibly has to do with career trajectory/opportunities/competitiveness... I think quite a lot of women drop out of the system/are put off by lack of stable jobs. My impression is in East Europe (like Argentina) salaries are low but jobs available...
English

@milos_agathon For me as a German, this is depressing. However, it might also be related to the level of income and prestige that a university job generates in a given country, when compared to other jobs.

On the International Women's Day I mapped the % of female researchers in Europe, according to UNESCO data. 👩🔬👩🏫👩🎓

@WryCritic What does this even mean? We even think Indo-European languages largely spread due to agriculture, not conquering anyone... And as for "Indo-European" people... well, what could that even mean? Genetically most of the world is a gradual continuum
English

Calls group of people "Indo-European", doesn't even consider India to be part of it 🤔
Alexander Stoyanov@Al_Stoyanov
Indoeuropeans were probably the greatest conquerors in human history and that had a lot to do with their social structure and their approach to war as a founding element for their states and societies.
English

@DrLMRobinson I think the biggest problem for me is not knowing what to focus on/do - so many things are required by different jobs & I don't know where to start. The imminent end also makes any longer-term planning impossible...

@Daniajinn @mfnberlin Hm, I have to say I support them. It's all about awareness, & a public venue like a museum is great to get attention. They didn't damage the fossils, & even if they did, stopping the climate disaster for a tiny bit of damage to a fossil (even Euparkeria!) is worth it IMO...
English

As a mother, scientist, science communicator, palaeontologist and art historian, this kind of action makes me sick to my stomach.
And this one in particular also shows ignorance, since the @mfnberlin and its workers have been promoting "Fridays for Future" for years.

@CassCretaceous @Tweetisaurus @NHMdinolab @Cambridge_Uni @TrinCollCam @EarthSciCam And maybe less desirable ones...

@Tweetisaurus @NHMdinolab @Cambridge_Uni @TrinCollCam @EarthSciCam Congratulations Paul 🎉🎉🎉
I agree with Susie, plus it has Gideon Mantell, Buckland etal vibes 👍

Not my usual garb, but I’ve just been admitted to the ScD (Doctor of Science) degree at my alma mater, @Cambridge_Uni @TrinCollCam @EarthSciCam, based on my contributions to science: very honoured to be following in the steps of my former teacher Jenny Clack, who also held one
