@batteryscott The Yaesu is a great product, but remember the costs don't stop with the rotator. You still need to buy (or make) the control cables (~$200+), and buy (or make) a computer controller ($200 - $600). So the total cost is higher, and it's not quite as easy as power up and go.

Yeah I get that. It's been over a year. Initially we wanted something really cheap, but found that cheap = easily breakable, rusting etc. Cheap is okay for a Chinese seller, but not good for a proper product with warranty and support. So beefing it up for real longevity added costs, then in that time manufacturing costs shot up, and then of course tariffs and compliance costs shot up too. And then selling fees are based on a percentage, so to maintain a safe margin retail prices have rise non-linearly.

@rtlsdrblog @batteryscott Thanks for the reply. I think the long project time (1 year?) meant costs did go up, but also how it was first described vs what it became also caused the disconnect and sticker shock.

I just want to point out that we're not exactly taking high margins on this product. They're actually quite a bit lower than what most businesses would consider healthy. Costs have really gone up these days. The main selling point IMO is it being pretty much turn-key for hobbyists.

@batteryscott @rtlsdrblog Totally agree. At that price point they have locked out 90% of their target audience. I wonder if the success of the discovery dish went to their head?

Lots of military aircraft on the ACARS map just now. Don't forget you can click the columns to sort them as well. tbgacarshub.airframes.io/adsb Best on laptops and PCs. Pretty pointless on mobile. Leave the map open for 15 to 30 min to sync messages in real time. Click on the aircraft to read the ACARS to and from it.

So, passive geolocation using only received iridium satellite signals. No transmitting, no GPS, no network connection — just a @NuandLLC bladeRF receiving iridium and solving Doppler shift to triangulate position. Getting within 10-25km of true location from cold start in under 10 mins.
