I am happy to share that I am technical chair for this year's @gnuradio Conference that will take place at NC State University in Raleigh! We are currently looking for speakers, so feel free to submit an abstract:

@Fintech03 This is complete bullshit. My galaxy s5 had a removable battery, a headphone jack, fast charging and was waterproof. The ridiculous peak charge rate modern phones advertize make no sense in real life and shorten battery lifespan (great thing when you cant easily replace it...)
English

Modern phones charge at 65W/80W/120W+. This generates a lot of heat in the battery. To manage that heat safely, manufacturers seal the battery & press it directly against graphite sheets, copper vapor chambers, & the phone’s metal frame, turning the entire chassis into a heat sink.
A removable battery usually has a small air gap b/w it & the back cover. Air is a terrible conductor of heat, so the cooling efficiency drops significantly. With fast charging, the battery would overheat more easily, forcing the phone to throttle charging speed/performance to stay safe.
Another important reason is water resistance. To achieve high IP67/IP68 ratings, we need reliable gaskets & adhesives. A removable back cover requires a large, perimeter-based mechanical seal that can be opened & closed by the user. These seals are notoriously prone to failure, even a single hair/grain of sand can break the seal.

@Fat_Electrician Removed from office is too easy. Sentence them to the same punishment that someone breaking their unconstitutial law would have been subject to.
English

The new trend in government (both Republican and Democrat) is pushing blatantly unconstitutional policies, knowing they’ll get away with it for years until the Supreme Court finally steps in.
The only real way to stop it is accountability: if a law or policy is ruled unconstitutional, anyone who voted for it or implemented it should be immediately removed from office and barred from holding office again.
They’re all sworn to defend and uphold the Constitution. This shouldn’t even be controversial.

Exit taxes are just a financial Berlin Wall.

@kjtrading It's $600 per trademark class minimum, and usually you end up paying in the high 4 figures.
English

@ryzerth Agreed, they will certainly try though. I did not realize you had to pay for opposition, that is crazy. Hopefully they'll just leave you alone!
English

@kjtrading You can't just trademark a word and then have all historical uses erased from existance. Im a broke student, I couldn't afford the opposition fees even if I wanted to. If they try anything funny legally, them doing that will be the first result in search engines. great reputation
English

@ryzerth Bummer, it would have been interesting to see how it was resolved, if you had filed opposition. I'd bet once their mark is approved, they come back to you, because now they own the trademark on it.
English

@Dianexis sent something cool from @stfudvs. @viridianvortex did a good job with the details in the artwork.

The new SDR++ squelch system (with support for CTCSS and future support for DCS) is now available in the latest nightly. I had worked on this back in december but completely forgot to push it...

@Anton__Chigurh_ Yeah mine publically existed more then 7 years before they registered their trademark (8 months ago). Would be a shame if the trademark was cancelled due to prior use lol

@BertoldVdb @aholtzma @cemaxecuter @DragonLabsLtd That is my paper, and it's not just a similar design, it *is* that design. I founded dragon labs.

Just when I thought this week couldn’t get any better, @DragonLabsLtd delivered the 8-channel DF board I’ve been waiting to get my hands on. Looks like I know what I’ll be doing this weekend — clearing the desk and putting it through its paces with SDR++.
