@SethBorman So you’re saying that people that can’t afford healthcare right now even with a high deductible plan should put it on a credit card with high interest rates? Assuming financial flexibility of the general public

@rubes3206 Disagree all you want, there is literature on it.
Ideally there would be insurance for major medical, but everything else would be cheaper even if you had to put it on your credit card.

This is a terrible idea. If you have a high deductible plan then what mark is saying is kind of true but you miss out on in network contracted rates. Out of network doctors and facilities can charge whatever they want and aren’t locked into a pricing contract.

The real health insurance scam is that they know as their deductibles go up, fewer people can afford to use their insurance. Which means they don’t have insurance. Despite having to pay premiums. It may sound counter intuitive , but if you can’t afford your deductible, you MIGHT be better off not getting insurance. When you need care, primary, preventive or worse, your doctor or hospital has financing plans. And, their cash price that they finance will be cheaper than what your insurance company or employer negotiated There is still a lot of work to be done before this is easy and convenient. But it’s starting to happen. Now is the time to find a doctor who is willing to work with you directly and let you pay them directly. See what works for you. This isn’t a perfect approach , so All feedback welcome !

@SethBorman Respectfully, disagree with the rates being higher. I agree that this will work if you have a high deductible plan to compare it to but you better hope you’re a healthy person overall if you want to pay OOP for every service

@rubes3206 In network rates are generally higher than cash. There are a couple of exceptions.
