Sources: President Trump, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House task force head Andrew Giuliani put together a team of elite lawyers — from outside the government — to challenge the Flo Balogun red card. Specifically they challenged the use of slow motion instant replay to give the red card, which they argued violated FIFA rules. The president also conveyed to Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president, that the appeal had been filed and he believed the red card penalty was excessive. FIFA’s independent committee reviewed the decision and agreed the penalty was incorrectly given, rescinding it under their rule 27 authority.

Until today, I always have said the greatest World Cup game I have ever seen was Germany-France in 1982. Might have to change that. The last hour of Argentina-Cape Verde had you on the edge of your seat every time either team charged forward.

@FuzzyStephenK @theblockspot Lol. No expert here. Just 44 years of watching world cup and how the game evolves. Also watching Euro, Gold Cup, etc. Very little surprises when it comes to WC wins overall. Semi finals are more unpredictable, but late history does favor favorites to win.

@FuzzyStephenK @theblockspot Just concerned that Paraguay will be very physical game, high heat and a ref that has history of allowing the physical plays. All of that could affect France with tougher schedule and factors than Argentina for example

The red card against @balogun was wrong, but so are the people who think your rules cannot be challenged.

@MaximeAubin1 Sénégal et Norvège ne sont pas des faire-valoir. La France a convaincu, marqué quand il le fallait, et aurait pu faire bien plus lourd. Le tout sous une chaleur très humide. L’Argentine, elle, a eu des adversaires très abordables et aurat des stades couverts.

Pour moi, cette CDM est en trompe l’œil pour l’instant. Bcp d’équipes faibles qui se font dominer, et on en conclut que leurs adversaires sont géniaux. Attendons de voir ce que donne l’équipe de France face à un adversaire très costaud qui sait contrôler le milieu (type Argentine et Espagne) avant de s’emballer.

@mkobach I'm not against beauty, I actually love it. I just hate the concept of "creative" if it fails to fullfill the purpose or to convey the goal. I love when people challenge the system and norms. Genius is when you can bridge aesthetic with real function.
