Even if the overall performance wasn’t convincing, I’ve got to give Flick credit for his subs. It’s not just about who he brought on, it’s where he used them. Normally you’d expect Rashford to come in on the left for Fermin or Olmo, and Ferran to replace Lewy through the middle. But instead, he flipped it, Rashford on the right, Ferran on the left, and Lewy staying on for the full game. That solution didn’t cross my mind at all, but Flick clearly saw something there. And in the end, it’s exactly what won us the game. Rashford’s cross from the right sets up Lewy for the first, then Ferran’s run from the left leads to the second. That’s top game management right there.

I would still tell you that he would make for a great depth player if we bring him back for a season or two. With the striker market looking super scarce, this would be the best bet. 1 or 2 seasons, raise his ceiling and then maybe we can loan or sell him.
