Special interests in general are not disruptive, distracting, or restrictive. SpIns can build connections, open windows to understanding the world, and spark joy. When space isn't made for Autistic SpIns, we often suffer, burn out, and feel isolated, alienated, and ashamed.

@NoThanks2023 Everyone has interests. Autistic special interests are intense, all-encompassing and can be used to help someone navigate the world. They come under the ‘restricted, repetitive behaviour and interests’ part of diagnostic criteria (worded very negatively).

What society sees as autistic special interests: - Trains - Any transportation - Postcodes - Number plates - Computers - Maths Special interests society does not recognise: - Cats - Books - Dance - Musicals - Art - Psychology I wonder why.

POLL FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE: I’ve never really had a problem with the term ‘special interests’, but I know not everyone likes it. My interests feel special to me. Sometimes I call them specific or intense interests. What do you think? If you prefer another term, what is it?
