@gmiller @clareanneath That statement means that parenting matters more than genes. There is no upside of genes if the downside of parenting takes you out.

@clareanneath Genes matter more than 'parenting'. Keep kids safe, feed them, and they will grow into whatever their genes tell them to grow into.

@BogdanIonutCir2 I don't know if it's 'disappointing' just because you disagree. I can why people would think climate and conflict would be the top 2. It goes to show that people still aren't seeing AI x-risk, and this is from a sample of respondents that are more aware of catastrophic threats.

@rumtin I'd call the results disappointing, given that the respondents focus on 'Climate Cataclysm' and WWIII and find those significantly more plausible than AI and bio risks

Plenty of fascinating results on people's perception of existential risk. Overall, respondents see human extinction by 2075 at around 20% likelihood. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@So8res That they don’t understand the issue at this point in the exponential curve is a fair enough reason to be pessimistic

It's silly to be such doomers about international coordination around AI (like Dario, quoted below). World leaders haven't even noticed the problem yet! Giving up before relevant parties even understand the issue is embarrassingly defeatist.

tl;dr would be: - these systems are not yet fully reliable, and Anthropic are right to limited their use in fully automated weapons - domestic surveillance is bad, m'kay? - fine for pentagon to walk away, but the supply chain threat is unprecedented and dangerous - the rest of the industry should be speaking up at this point.

And now Fortune. I don't speak to the media all that much these days. But where there's something time-sensitive that clearly needs more high-quality media engagement and public attention drawn to it (which this Anthropic/Pentagon situation certainly qualifies as) and where I've had time to look into it, I'm happy to drop things and speak, so please feel welcome to be in touch.

Just spoke to Reuters about the Anthropic/Pentagon situation. (Guess that's what I get for tweeting grumpily from my room when I'm supposed to be reading student essays).
