@Dr_Gavin_Brewis We need to stop valorising concepts like sacrifice and duty ‘for one’s country’ or ‘for one’s king’, this normalises our brothers and sisters being sent to die by their oppressors. They deserve compassion for what they have endured. Why idolise the system that made them endure it

@HebrideanYoon I agree with you, but I also don’t think it’s a reliable metric for pro or anti independence support. The problem I have is the SNP use this ploy every election in the off chance it happens. They’re more interested in independence regardless of rather than because of the people

@runci95 You would think if there was an appetite for another referendum, the independence supporting parties could get more of the vote than they achieved. If the vote shares were the other way round, they’d have a much better argument.

@HebrideanYoon You’re presenting the vote count as evidence the Scottish people don’t want another ref, which may well be true, as I said the percentages mirror the result

@Dr_Gavin_Brewis I came to the conclusion it’s nothing more than a political tactic to garner popularity from who they see as majority group, it’s the same playbook used by reform with different posturing

Why are these "parties for the working class", never actually led by the working class? Why is it always the Glasgow uni accent middle classes with plenty to fall back on who are put into places they will win easily? Scheme weans never have their own voices up there.

@DickWinchester As much as I dislike reform the system ensures the parliaments seats better represent to share of votes each party received, which better represents the electorate, this is markedly better than FPTP

@Dr_Gavin_Brewis @swift_csc This is the point we vote differently, both in the present and as mentioned historically. Since devolution Scotland has not had a single right wing government, while the UK has had close to 2 decades worth of them in that time

@swift_csc @runci95 So what were you arguing against here? People have continually suggested we are "just the same". We are not. Which was the literal caption.

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis So the argument is the only thing stopping reform in Scotland is a left wing Scottish party that commands 35-45% of the vote? Is this not the point of my argument?

@Dr_Gavin_Brewis @runci95 English vote is now split five ways with no party polling above the high 20s. In Scotland the SNP being in the 30s is preventing reform wins. Results different yes but only around 10% swing in favour of Reform in England where they have much more history, resources and experience

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis I agree with you as to the far right wave being the challenge everywhere, what is clear is the Scottish electorate would not vote them into power, a confidence I will not have next GE, which points to the ‘exception’ of Scottish political disposition, how would you describe it?

@runci95 @Dr_Gavin_Brewis Don’t disagree with England leaning more right however it’s not the time for Scottish exceptionalism. Last night we elected our first far right parliamentarians. In Scotland and Wales the far right is the opposition. The whole UK and Europe are facing the same challenges.

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis I wouldn’t ever claim it a ‘progressive paradise’ and there is a core of right wing voters, the point is the left wing core is and always has been the larger, this is opposed to south of the border

@runci95 @Dr_Gavin_Brewis Reform have underperformed so we have two less right wing MSPs. The point I’m making is Scotland isn’t some progressive paradise. Reform done very well and we now have a far right party as the opposition in Scotland. The far right is on the rise here too we can’t be complacent

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis Ok and they have ended with less seats between the two than tories got last time out, so we in fact have a less right wing parliament than last time, which was your point?

@runci95 @Dr_Gavin_Brewis England has a history of being more right wing economically but on social issues of race, religion etc we are very similar according to most data. Tory+Reform vote as of right now: Constituency: 28% List: 29% Almost 1/3 Scots voted Tory/Reform

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis There were 31 torie seats in 2021, how likely is it that the torrie + reform seats is significantly, if at all, more than this? To me it is evident England has a right tilted electorate that Scotland does not

@swift_csc @Dr_Gavin_Brewis The list vote is a complete farce though. FPTP is good enough for a GE why not a SE? Are you happy with British exceptionalism then?

@runci95 @BadgerBitesUK @ZackPolanski The UK is now expected to spend around £110bn a year on debt interest — more than the defence budget. That is the opportunity cost of pretending debt doesn’t matter: cashflow that could have gone to defence, the NHS, schools, policing or actual investment.

The Mail doesn't think seem to think workers, of all ages, are worth £15 an hour. That's fair pay for a fair day's work, with money workers will put back into the economy. We are the party for workers. Vote Green on 7th May.

@runci95 @Elizabeth9102 @StefSpodeUK @ZackPolanski I get that and don’t disagree in principle, but we have to be realistic. Simply forcing companies to pay more when it could force them out of business, lead to more inflation (removing any benefit from the increase) or cause them to hire fewer people simply isn’t the solution.

@runci95 @Grumpyo13176612 @StefSpodeUK @ZackPolanski If we all devote our time and effort, those who create high value should naturally earn more. However, society should provide a minimum wage to those who work just as hard, to ensure they still have the time and energy to create value in the future.

@Elizabeth9102 @Grumpyo13176612 @StefSpodeUK @ZackPolanski Yes Elizabeth that’s the point I’m making also, I don’t want to strip everyone of money and hand it out, I want a society where we can all work and at the very least be comfortable and afford while not all but at least some pleasures for ourselves, if that didn’t appeal to people
