I understand your point, but I don’t fully agree. Supporting someone financially or emotionally does not mean they owe you a lifetime relationship in return. People can genuinely appreciate sacrifices made for them and still realize the marriage is no longer healthy, compatible, or sustainable. The painful part is not that she left. It’s that we often assume sacrifice guarantees permanence, when relationships are more complex than transactions.

The day she served him divorce papers in that same office I was also there. What I witnessed between those two days will never leave me.

I’m currently defending a man in a custody battle in the East. The wife has left him, he supported and trained her up to post-graduate level. The husband is a highly educated person.
