I have seen some of the resurfaced tweets. They are dark, disturbing, unacceptable, and the exact kind of behaviour I’ve spoken against for years. Nothing about what has unfolded is trivial or entertaining. It has sat heavily with me. It has made my mouth bitter and my belly ache. I believe in creating safer communities and my stance has not changed. I have always opposed every form of rape culture — in words, in behaviour, in the excuses people make for it. That commitment doesn’t dissolve because someone I know is implicated. If anything, it strengthens my resolve.
