@Channel4News Job market is very tough for non grads too. One impact is that demand for unis being sustained due to lack of an alternative, despite rising concerns about value for money a university education offers.

Emma Greenwood, who’s in her final year of university, has spent nine months looking for a job. She tells us the process of looking for graduate employment is 'demoralising' and says there doesn't seem to be 'any point of change or hope at the moment'. It comes as unemployment for those aged 16-24 is at its highest for a decade.

@CeliaRichards0n Yes, beautiful. I think the best is Carlisle to Settle - but I’ve been watching Scotland’s Poshest Train (presented by Alan Cummings) and the route in the Highlands looks amazing.

The issue with the UK is particularly acute as you have had a staggering increase in population with flatlining GDP and productivity. Tie that in with an increase in economically inactive and you have a perfect storm.

Still scratching my head trying to figure out how employer National Insurance contributions of 15% in 2023 didn't result in price increases/workers layoffs, but restoring employer National Insurance contributions back to 15% in 2024 will when economic conditions are much improved

@psus24 @100glitterstars Half of welfare payments (inc pensions) are to pensioners. Ageing demographic costs more than just healthcare. That burden has to be carried by the relatively smaller proportion of the population who are working. As the info shows, that’s the same for many other countries.
