"When I grew up I wanted to be an artist, or a bear" The wonderful @jackiemorrisart speaking at the launch of a Summer exhibition showcasing her art at Rheged
Joining my first screen-writing group chat on Zoom tonight, as an absolute beginner. Already, though, I realise how useful it is to have written several novels before considering the technical challenge of adapting for the screen.
Have a look on Youtube at the film of my play 'The Day the Iron Works Closed', a true disaster story set in Millom in 1968. We filmed it at the Beggar's Theatre, Millom, in November 2022.
I'm investigating the possibility of doing a screen writing course, with a focus on my West Cumbrian crime fiction. It would be great to have a chat with other Cumbrian writers who are already on this road. I'm always willing to travel for a meeting.
I've been away from "Twitter" for a while long, and the link to Elon Musk makes me want to ditch it for good. Can anyone give me a good reason for sticking with it?
After much debate with myself I've kept the price of my ebooks at £2.99 on Kindle - less than the price of a decent coffee. I know it costs very little to upload an ebook, but it costs a lot longer in time and effort to plan, write and edit.
Better news...I'm planning a series of video readings from my nine West Cumbrian novels, filmed in their respective settings. What a cool idea, but we'll need weather like this.
My to-do list today? Continue my appeal against a parking fine from Northern Rail: their advertised payment app. had been scammed, it stole our credit card details and didn't pay the charge. And they have the nerve to charge me £50? Unbelievable.
Exciting things are happening! A London-based media lawyer is now representing me in a search for interest in adapting my novels for tv. Will it work? Who knows, but the idea is enthralling. And I'm back on LinkedIn, as 'Writer, re-born' - check it out.
It’s years since I posted on ‘Twitter’. I felt as if I’d retired, but all my books are still out there, they are still selling and being read, and my play ‘The Day Iron Works Closed’ had a great reception. Now I’m thinking about film and tv - so maybe it’s time to re-engage.
@Deb_kate I became an ‘emerging writer’ at 60, emerging from a very busy professional life into the stage when my urge to write fiction could finally be realised.
@Healthyhappy50@VertebratePub Try my series, all set during the 20th century, in West Cumbria and the wild west of the English Lake District , where the mountains meet the sea. Check my website ruthsuttonauthor.co.uk for all the details.
Can you help? If I wanted to immerse myself in books about or set in the #LakeDistrict - contemporary/historical, fiction/non fiction and everything in between, what would recommend? I’d be so grateful for your help. Thank you! Jo 📕 #BookTwitter#Cumbria#BookRecommendations
When I’m creating a character, I have a sense of who they are and know their gender, age and general personality…then I scroll internet images until I find their face, print it & hang it above my desk. Is that weird? Anyone else do this #WritingCommunity ?
