@simon_schama @WSJFreeEx Kristof is a legendary and highly respected journalist. The WSJ editorial page spreads the views of right-wing hacks. I'm going with Nick on this one.

@masnRoch I'm guessing Basallo's knee soreness means he won't catch for a few days but obviously he can still hit -- so DH (but not against Max Fried).

The Orioles have made the following roster moves: - Recalled C Maverick Handley from Double-A Chesapeake. - Placed OF Dylan Beavers (right oblique strain) on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 11.

@jonathanchait @TheAtlantic @SethAckerman Hamas is a bunch of nihilistic thugs. But it was Israel that supported Hamas for years (under Netanyahu's direction) to split Palestinian politics with the express purpose of preventing the emergence of a Palestinian state. So to some degree, this was chickens coming home...

@TheAtlantic But @SethAckerman has identified the key fissure: the center-left sees Hamas and Israel as sharing blame for the conflict, while the left blames Israel entirely -- hence criticizing Hamas, in its view, is as counterproductive as nitpicking the civil rights movement .

A recent graduation speech at the University of Michigan underscores how the progressive left’s reverence for activism “can enable the movement’s worst ideas and instincts to escape scrutiny,” @jonathanchait argues: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/05/…

@clashreport @tashecon Need to keep in mind that Tim Ash’s business model depends on selling Turkey to investors. His willingness to overlook the corruption and brutality of the Erdogan regime reflects this.

Timothy Ash, Chatham House Associate Fellow: The only country in Europe with a serious amount of military personnel is Türkiye. Türkiye no longer feels much need for Europe. Europe must become aware of Türkiye's advantages. Europe must give something. Customs Union — definitely a much more deepened Customs Union. On the membership process, Europe can be more sincere. I think the second most powerful country in the EU could be Türkiye. Islamophobia must be overcome here. Türkiye's value must be shared. Europe must understand this — and I think Türkiye holds a big trump card on this. Türkiye is currently at a very important point — and Türkiye may not be aware of this. Of course, everything has to be two-way. The Turks may ask: what will our gain be?

@SimonCalder CDG is pretty bad, but it does have reasonable flat-rate taxi fares to anywhere in the city. Beats the heck out of 100+GBP fares from Heathrow.

Europe's worst major airport? Surely it must be Paris Charles de Gaulle, in terms of surface access (CDG Express train from Gare de l'Est is running three years behind schedule) as well as the overall airport design and operation. Other nominations welcome independent.co.uk/travel/news-an…

MTG sacrificed her political career to stand against genocide, against Trump, against the Epstein Class, and to defend the survivors of Epstein’s trafficking. If that doesn’t earn credibility I don’t know what possibly could.

AOC: I personally do not trust somebody like Marjorie Taylor Greene—a proven bigot and anti-semite—on the issues of what is good for Gazans and Israelis. I don’t think it benefits our movement to align with white nationalists.

@clashreport Maybe if Turkey stopped prosecuting Erdogan's political opponents and threatening them with absurd sentences of 2,300 years in prison, that might help.

@__KerryLyn130 Yes, ship-jumpers are looking like the smart ones right now. Meanwhile, Alby praises a LH A’s starter with a 6.60 ERA for shutting down the O’s because “his arm slot was really tough for our RH hitters.” Fans get dissed while the team gets excused for playing like garbage.

Maybe instead of Alby worrying about the fans jumping ship he should worry about his team not being manhandled by the Athletics

@afkostka So far Holliday has not shown he can play any position at the major league level. He was bad at 2B last year. Can't imagine playing him at multiple positions is going to improve that.

Craig Albernaz said Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg has a follow-up appointment on his elbow Monday, May 11. Jackson Holliday will see some time at third, Albernaz said, including tomorrow in Double-A. The goal is to make Holliday versatile at three infield spots

The Orioles lose 6-2 to the Athletics. More than 70,000 fans flocked to Camden Yards over the past two days. What they got to see were two losses, sloppy play in the field, and struggles at the plate. Baltimore is 17-23, and it's getting late early.
