MEA: We have Gandhi, ancient civilisation, and a Constitution that guarantees fundamental rights. REPORTER 🎯: Exactly. I know India has fundamental rights. That is why I asked about violations. MEA: If rights are violated, people can go to court. 😐 REPORTER: That’s the point. Why are people forced to go to court for basic rights? MEA: It’s my press conference. I will decide. Throughout all day I have struggled to log onto my Instagram account. Now I have been suspended. It is a small prize to pay for press freedom, but I’ve never experienced it before.

Primeminister of India, Narendra Modi, would not take my question, I was not expecting him to. Norway has the number one spot on the World Press Freedom Index, India is at 157th, competing with Palestine, Emirates & Cuba. It is our job to question the powers we cooperate with.

On Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, we honour the tens of thousands of civilians killed during the Sri Lankan Civil War and stand with the survivors, families, and communities who endured profound suffering — including many in Canada’s Tamil diaspora.

It was a privilege to meet Hon’ble Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and personally congratulate him on assuming the responsibility of leading Tamil Nadu at such a defining moment in the State’s journey. His clarity of thought, humility and deep commitment towards the people of Tamil Nadu left a lasting impression on me. There is a strong sense of purpose in the way he speaks about the future of the State, balancing aspiration with inclusion, progress with compassion. We had a meaningful conversation on the future of healthcare in Tamil Nadu, the importance of strengthening preventive and specialised care, particularly for women, and the immense opportunity for the State to emerge as a global model for inclusive development. Tamil Nadu has always stood apart for its leadership in healthcare, education and human development. Under young and purpose-driven leadership, the State has the potential to script an extraordinary new chapter of growth and transformation. Wishing Hon’ble Chief Minister Vijay strength, wisdom and success as he embarks on this important journey of public service.
