Rwanda and Tanzania have agreed to boost economic ties covering various areas, including trade as well as rail and power projects. This follows talks between President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her visiting Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame in Dar es Salaam on Sunday. President Samia noted that Rwandan investments worth $325.5 million in her country have created more than 2,200 jobs for Tanzanians, and that bilateral trade volume reached 644 billion Tanzanian shillings, the equivalent of $246.6 million, in 2025, while Tanzanian ports handle 70% of Rwandan cargo shipments. She said Rwanda and Tanzania "enjoy relations anchored on brotherhood, good neighbourliness and historic friendship," according to a statement from her office On his part, President Kagame said he hoped the two countries would "build on the strong foundation of their existing relations." The two leaders also discussed the possibility of easing trade barriers between their countries as well as defence cooperation, according to the statement

It is truly sad to be in the world of 2026 and still find a country like Burundi operating on outdated politics. Ethnic politics has never taken any country anywhere, I swear to you... it is simply a failure to look beyond the fact that the Belgian colonizer we had did nothing for us except tear us apart. Rwanda understood this early, the wise choices of knowing who to partner with are what brought us to where we are today. Burundi has continued to fuel ethnically-based hatred in the region, and it seems as though the CNDD-FDD government does not fully understand that this is a trap set by the Belgians, because they are the ones with a legacy of dividing people into factions. And so the relationship between Tanzania and Rwanda, built on mutual interests, is aligned with where the world is heading today. asante sana
