@ImCollegeSoccer I totally disagree, some kids just want a new scenery (new coach, teammates, etc) and a chance to get on the field. Going down a level gives them that opportunity!

Stay in your lane! 🚨 Most D2, D3, NAIA, and JC coaches will was to be realistic when reaching out to D1 transfers. Especially P4 transfers. The Transfers from D1 schools posting on social media, you have little to no chance of getting them unless you offer a full ride with great academics/facilities. The truth is a lot of you are going to get ghosted from kids in the D1 portal. They would rather quit soccer and just attend a big D1 school for the student experience than to attend most schools at your levels. Know your market and don’t waste your time. #D1orBust #CSTruth

Well, my kids were blessed to grow up in the rec and travel sports world (soccer, baseball, etc), and I’m sure I’ve spent plenty of $$$ and time throughout the years. In our household, the goal or drive was never to earn a sports scholarship or go D1, it was all for the happiness, memories, the joy experienced playing a game/sport, competing with and against high-level talent, lifelong friendships and bonds made along the way, the camaraderie of being teammates, learning to compete, learning work-ethic, being passionate, learning how to fail, learning how to win with grace and good sportsmanship, learning how to love and care about teammates and respect their opponents, how to get up after getting knocked down, becoming a good teammate/friend, learning responsibility and discipline and just enjoy playing a sport you love for as long as possibly can. All traits that will help navigate life and make them successful the rest of their adult lives. Keeping that in mind, since there was no pressure on my kids to keep playing sports (they knew they could quit at anytime) or to earn a scholarship, they never got burnt out, hence they’re both still playing their sport. One is playing football in college and the other is committed to play soccer in college. I’m sure my portfolio would look a lot different without travel ball, but I wouldn’t change it for all the money in the world. I didn’t live vicariously through my kids, but there’s nothing more pure and joyful, than watching your children thriving, having fun, smiling and being genuinely happy, living their best life on and off their field of play. I have so many beautiful and of course some painful memories and experiences watching them play sports throughout the past 15 years, just as any parent has had watching their own kids on stage for drama, playing an instrument, getting inducted into the NHS, showing off their artwork they made of just watching them laugh and play with their friends at a playground. It makes me happy to see my kids happy! Playing sports makes them happy, hence I support their passions. I think many more parents (travel sports, ballet, dancer, cheerleading parents, STEM/robotic contestants, etc. ) feel similar to me than the few psycho travel sports parents that think kid is Barry Bonds.

Let me explain exactly why parents pay $25,000 a year for youth sports their kid will never play professionally, because the math is more interesting than the headlines suggest. The $25K is buying admissions arbitrage at elite colleges. Run it both ways. Scholarship math first. The US has 8 million high school athletes. Roughly 7% play in college, 2% at D1. Total NCAA athletic scholarship spend is $3.6 billion across about 175,000 D1 athletes, mostly partial aid in the low teens per year. A family putting in $25K annually from age 6 to 18 spends $300K chasing a maximum return of about $80K. The expected value is a lottery ticket. Admissions math second. The SFFA v. Harvard trial disclosed that recruited athletes get admitted at 86%. The non-athlete rate sits around 5%. Even academically weak applicants jump to a 98% admit probability if recruited. A non-athlete with a 1397 SAT has roughly 0.08% odds at Harvard. The same kid recruited for crew has 70%+. The athletic hook is the largest single advantage in elite admissions, bigger than legacy or dean's list. Ivies don't even offer athletic scholarships. The value is purely the admissions ticket. This is what $25K buys. Year-round travel ball is the qualifier round for an admissions process operating on different rules than the one your kid's classmates compete in. The "country club sports" pipeline (squash, lacrosse, crew, fencing, golf) is a feature. Barrier to entry is the product. 90% of Ivy League squash players come from $30K-a-year private high schools. The math works because the alternative pool is small. PE arrived after the demand existed. Unrivaled Sports, Perfect Game, regional travel-ball roll-ups. Upper-middle-class parents had already turned youth sports into a class transmission mechanism. PE consolidated the supply chain and raised prices because the buyers were already there at $25K. $300K to convert a 4% admit rate at an Ivy into an 86% one. Plus the alumni network and pre-professional sorting that follows. That's the actual equation. The trade is rational at the top of the income distribution. Brutal everywhere else.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

NEW: Youth sports is now costing parents as much as $25,000 a year. Private equity and corporations are turning a childhood pastime into something only the wealthy can afford. Youth sports has become a $40 billion industry, and the steep costs are crushing American families.

A fired Goldman Sachs quant trader taught me everything in a single conversation He said: “We don’t do predictions. We only buy contracts where the price deviation exceeds 6%.” It’s just that simple That’s the desk operation for a $2 million annual salary I fed his explanation and 5 GitHub repos into Claude, and Claude built a scanner. It processes over 400 markets every hour This scanner can find those contracts priced in the 7-19c range, with true probabilities between 60-90% At these entry points, you need a win rate of 1/4 And this bot’s win rate is 81% Three months later: From $2,000 to $8,191 99 trades, Sharpe ratio 2.30 A few cases: ETH Merge upgrade - market 72c, true probability 88%, +19c SOL breaks $200 - market 44c, true probability 81%, +15c Florida hurricane cat3+ - market 81c, true probability 92%, +7c Wheat breaks $800 - market 53c, true probability 68%, +20c All of these were found by the scanner, and all were profitable He looked at my terminal last week He said: “This is what we do with $800M, 47-person team.” And my current setup costs $25 per month Claude - $20 VPS - $5 Repos - free API - free Now there are 8 agents running 24/7: velvet_void +$697 nano_alpha +$541 ratking_eth +$407 darkpool_7 +$356 His fund returned 19% last year And my setup returned 409% in three months The real edge was never any secret—it’s just always been expensive, until now 70% win rate, 7 wallets copytrading rn from ~500 monitored, bot never paused, never gambling, just math and profit.
