We need to try hard not to repeat history. We do so when we underestimate our enemy. In this video clip, my editor asked me for details about what went wrong during Operation URGENT FURY, Grenada, Oct., 1983. The takeaway -- never underestimate your enemy.

@QueenAnticommie Now places ask for tips while you order a sandwhich to go. The payment systems are now designed to include tip screens. Why am I tipping someone who’s making me a $8 sandwhich to go??? Technically they are not a server.

I finally tried Whataburger in Texas after hearing people talk about it like it was a religious experience. And I’m just gonna say it… I still don’t see what the big deal is. It was fine. Not bad. Not life-changing. Nobody’s ancestors whispered “welcome home” when I took a bite. So all of you who love it please explain yourselves.

Most Americans can’t even clean a fish or butcher a chicken, yet some of them keep using terms like “Civil War”? I think Dort would agree with me that’s absolutely the worst nightmare ever for us. No power, no food, disease, famine, death by some infections that were once curable, no medicines and no hope. You’ll be trading 2-3 bullets for a meal. If you still have ammo. You know how much small arms ammo it takes to clear a fortified 12 apartment complex? A dump truck full.

This isn’t a classroom. And it’s not your Ivy League syllabus. I’m not here to cherry pick history to fit your comfort level. This page isn’t about preserving feelings. It’s about preserving truth. You’re going to learn about all kinds of Americans here. The brilliant. The broken. The brutal. The redeemed. And yes, today, that includes Robert E. Lee. One of the finest battlefield commanders to ever walk the face of the earth. But this post isn’t really about Lee. It’s about what’s coming if you don't wake up and understand ALL of the American condition, not just the parts you like. And what history refuses to let us forget. Spare me your pearl clutching cries of “traitor.” You want only the parts of the American experiment that make you feel good? Too bad. Battle it out in the comments. You don’t get to cherry pick the Republic. You’re going to get all of it: the glory, the grief, the blood, the brilliance. Because believe it or not, that’s how we heal this ridiculous divide. Not by erasing history. By facing it, whole. Lee was mythic in his own time, and while still in uniform no less. I can count on one hand the number of military leaders in world history who held that kind of gravity. His mere presence on the battlefield moved thousands. His men believed he rode with God. And his enemies feared he commanded the wind. Why? Because Lee was the perfect storm of lethal factors, a man forged in pressure, faith, and brilliance: He possessed a battlefield mind that bent terrain, timing, and psychology to his will. He spoke softly, but carried the moral weight of a holy man, which made others fight for him as if fighting for something divine. He was the living embodiment of a region’s grief, pride, and wrath. He never had to scream. His silence made others move. The most dangerous man in any war is the one who didn’t want it, until you gave him no choice. Lee was that man. And that’s why he was so effective. You want to understand Lee? Then understand the war he fought in. Don’t give me another surface level take about rifled muskets and outdated tactics. That’s not why it was the bloodiest war in our history. The Civil War was decades in the making. The riots. The compromises. The moral rot no one wanted to confront until it swallowed the whole nation. It was what happens when generations ignore the pressure, until it explodes. And when it did, men like Lee, Sherman, and Grant emerged. They didn’t crawl out of textbooks. They rose out of chaos, because the times demanded them. Half of you are begging for civil war now, without the faintest idea what that would mean. You think GWOT was bad? You cry over civilians killed in drone strikes? That horror would pale next to a war of brother against brother, of neighborhoods torn apart by blood and belief. Because you end up hating someone exactly as much as you once loved them. And how much more do you love your fellow countryman than some stranger in a foreign land? And here’s what you don’t see: Those archetypes, the Lees, the Shermans, the Grants? They already live among you. Quiet. Unknown. Watching. You think they’re extinct? They’re not. They’re waiting. And if the hate keeps boiling, they won’t stay unknown for long. So yes, on this page, you will hear their names. You will study their victories and their sins. And I won’t soften the blow of reality just to make you feel better. Because history doesn’t need your approval. It needs your attention. The lesson? No war is more brutal than the ones we fight with ourselves. And no man is more dangerous than the one who wanted peace... until you gave him no other choice. That’s what the Civil War was. And that’s what you’re playing with now. So keep screaming in the comments. Just know you’re screaming at the future you’re helping create.

Do you know what happens when you reduce every Civil War leader to "traitor" without understanding the complexity of their time? You don’t heal the nation. You alienate millions who descend from them. That doesn’t mend wounds, it deepens the divide. It pushes us closer to the abyss we claim to fear. Be careful. One day, your own sins (your words, your conduct, your certainty) may land you in the dustbin of history. In Lee’s day, it was slavery. In yours? It might be what you said behind a screen. Or that you thought men could be women and women could be men. History has a long memory. And your grandchildren may not be as forgiving as you think.

Okay, I’ll weigh in. The U.S. Merchant Marine was the first service to get VA benefits. From 1798 until Reagan every U.S. Merchant Mariner got free medical care. From 1801 until 2019, we had free retirement housing too. Military veterans, meanwhile, got a patchwork of corrupt services until they marched on Washington in the infamous Bonus Army scandal. What followed was a compromise. Huge Merchant Marine hospitals were built across the country. This is why the Surgeon General is an admiral. Not a Navy admiral, but a United States Public Health Service admiral. People assume the uniform is Navy. It was originally Merchant Marine. This caused long standing anger among military veterans, and it is the primary reason there is systematic hatred of my service inside the Pentagon, especially the Navy. Most military officers today don’t even know why they dislike us. It is just baked into Navy culture at this point. The problem is that by the 1980s, the hospitals were a nightmare of overspending and bad care. And the unfairness continued. The government is shit at running hospitals. The Merchant Marine system had gone from glorious brick buildings, built with no expense spared, to dilapidated facilities delivering horrible care. Running the hospitals wasn’t the only problem. Anyone could apply for a Merchant Marine card, serve a short stint on a ship & then suck down healthcare benefits for years. And of course, it was massively unfair that one service, the Merchant Marine, got all of this public support while the others got nothing. Some tried to justify it by pointing out that the Merchant Marine is always the first in danger during war (Strait of Hormuz, anyone?) & suffered the highest casualty rate of WWII. But it WAS unfair. Why shouldn’t military veterans get free healthcare just like the USMM? So Reagan shut the hospitals down and elevated the VA to a cabinet level department. The USMM was promised benefits would continue under the new VA system. Angry Navy admirals blocked it. Then they sold the land that was gifted to pay for our retirement home to NYU. The fund ran out of money in 2019. So CP is absolutely correct. VA benefits were never intended just for combat veterans. They were originally designed for the rear echelon, the logistics & supply tail that kept our troops in the fight. The whole “combat arms gets better benefits” narrative started as a way to screw over my service. And it is coming full circle to bite the Navy in the ass. Last year the Navy laid up 17 ships because they can’t find enough Merchant Mariners to crew them. Why? Because nobody is going to war if they are denied basic medical care. The Merchant Marine is THE favorite target of the Houthis and Iran today. Hell, one of our ships was rammed by a Russian captain and exploded in a massive fireball off the UK. Total VA care for the Merchant Mariners injured: zero. But there is a word of caution in this story too. The hospital system became bloated and ineffective. Fraud ran rampant. Should Army cooks get full VA benefits and disability pay? Absolutely. If he served 1 year & then got discharged collect 80% disability for PTSD? Of course not. Fraud is a real problem. The VA is now the 2nd largest department in the federal government. Many of the hospitals are in terrible condition and deliver bad care. Ever been to the VA hospital in the Bronx? I know retired NYPD cops who won’t go near the place. The VA system is broken. Full stop. It should not be larger than every other department in the U.S. government. Full stop. There is massive fraud and abuse. Full stop. And it was inevitable, because it is a carbon copy of the Merchant Marine hospital system that was a disaster. It is not completely broken yet. Some VA hospitals are fine. But the end state is inevitable. And for god sake give the Merchant Marine, just those serving in combat zones, their VA benefits back before the Navy has to lay up more ships.

Somehow there is an X debate going on right now about VA disability ratings. I'm hearing some idiots saying if it's not from a combat wound, you should not get a disability rating. To which I rebut with the following; 20+ years of: -12 mile ruck marches. -5k/10k/10 mile/every other distance runs. -Parachute landing falls. -Obstacle and confidence courses. -Vehicle rollovers. -Helicopter hard landings. -Heat injuries/cold injuries. -Anthrax shots, COVID shots, all other kinds of shots. -"Here, take some Motrin, you'll be fine." -Weeks/Months/Years of high stress and little sleep. -Extended periods of poor nutrition. -Weird diseases you can only get in places like Afghanistan or Korea. -Burn pits. -All other manner of training injuries. -Never telling anybody you are injured because if you do they might pull you from that leadership position you fought so hard to earn. You do all that for 20+ years, your body will be torn up, I promise. The US military is a physically demanding place, no matter what your branch of service or MOS. Training accidents happen routinely. People die in peacetime accidents, routinely. The idea that a VA disability rating should only come from something that also earns a Purple Heart is nonsense. If anything, our warriors are consistently denied VA disability ratings for what are clearly service-connected ailments.

I was today years old when I realized that those who didn't serve think we're talking about running and doing pushups in basic training when we mention the word training. It simply didn't occur to me that they don't realize basic is just the start of one's military training and conditioniong. That they don't know about things like full equipment night jumps followed by 12 mile ruck marches with 90 lbs of gear or all the dangerous shit soldiers are made to do involving aircraft and vehicles. They have no idea what the non-deployed life of an infantryman is like...
