@jennyshalev @HeidiBachram @EBU_HQ If your point is that juries should be professional and apolitical then any correlation to the televote is meaningless. Yes, the others punished Israel but their jury was equally unprofessional and political.

We knew the Eurovision jury votes were political but here’s a judge from Norway actually admitting it. He even confesses he was told not to discriminate based on nationality. The @EBU_HQ should act on this shocking revelation. #Eurovision

@jennyshalev @HeidiBachram @EBU_HQ How do you explain why the Israeli jury gave maximum points to Luxembourg then? Make sure your own backyard is in order before you go looking in anyone else's.

@HeidiBachram @EBU_HQ Many judges gave Israel last place, which is clearly political. The whole idea of judges is to judge professionally. Those who couldn’t do it this year due to personal biases should have disqualified themselves instead of rigging the vote. They should be disqualified from now on

@hutcho66 I actually think London is the outlier here, not Melbourne.

@johnb78 The problem is if we're ever going to get 400kmh bullet, it would be on a totally different alignment to the 160kmh proposal. So you'd be double spending (even if it's only a partial upgrade of existing line).

One of the big problems for non-metro rail in Australia is that the backlash to bullet train enthusiasts has memed everyone into thinking that running mid-speed rail at decent frequencies over car-competitive distances is just as silly as 400km/h Melbourne-Brisbane
Every Sydney Station@Sydney_Stations

It really wouldn't take much to make the train the best way to get to Canberra. Straighten a few bits of track and move Canberra Station to Civic. Even at 160km/h design speed of the existing fleet, a <2.5hr trip would make it the easy winner. Anything more is a bonus.

I mean I might not massively like Travis, but abuse for riding with his cat and without a helmet? That's nonsense. It seems that Sigrid loves to ride with him and he takes good care of her. He'd get none of this abuse if he was in a car. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

people have always cared about palestine but it is amazing to see this sea change of attitude especially in the US. eg i remember when jvp were fighting in the twitter trenches in 08 asserting the right to call cast lead a war crime, now they’re leading huge sit ins in washington

Part of the tech-bro to conspiracy-bro pipeline is the phenomenon of men who spent their formative years ignoring and disdaining anything but coding, gaming or tech now noticing politics and global affairs for the first time and refusing to believe this is how the world works.

@jpolly22 I think it's in part that due to a lot of antisemitic discourse over the years people actually think there are way more Jews here than there actually are. I often ask people in conversations about it to guess and they give numbers considerably higher than what it is.

What so many non-Jewish people living in North America don’t understand is how closely connected Jews living here are to the situation in Israel. There are just over 16 million Jews in the world and 7 million live in Israel right now. So many of us have been there, even lived there. Some of us have family and friends who have been murdered and are being held hostage. We have friends from our Birthright trips that are rejoining the army and putting their lives on the line to protect their people, unlike HAMAS who continue to cowardly put their own at risk. So yeah, this is personal for Jews here and everywhere around the world.

There is absolutely no social consensus on how to dress for a long flight. You’ve got people wearing suits, gym gear, some in enough outdoor wear to hike up a mountain and others straight up wearing pyjamas and carrying a pillow. It’s chaos.

@EricBoehm87 Getting a visa is not a threat to your freedom, get a fucking grip. No one has any entitlement to visit any other country without adhering to whatever rules are in place. It's a privilege.

I feel like this is something that should be a much bigger story than it is: Starting next year, American passport-holders won't have visa-free access to Europe. Instead, you'll have to pay 7 Euros and wait *14 days* for an entry visa to be processed. reason.com/2023/07/28/say…
