Big professional news.
After two and a half years in private practice, I'm returning to public service.
On Monday, I'll be starting a new role at the Harris County Public Defender's Office Appellate Division. #appellatetwitter

@SteveBresnen Thanks Steve. There is a separate panel for that though.

Hi #appellatetwitter folks. I’m moderating a terrific Texas Courts of Appeals panel at the upcoming Advanced Civil Appellate CLE in Austin. What questions would you like the panel justices to answer?

@ryanclinton What’s the point of shortened briefing deadlines for expedited appeals if the ruling still takes well over a year from submission?

@ryanclinton "If you could ignore *one* binding precedent as an intermediate court-of-appeals justice, what would it be and why?"
English

@ryanclinton I sure wish I could convince my clients of this. They always want to define that one thing. Seems quite silly.

I’m not even sure this website is used for such things anymore, but is any Texas appellate lawyer here interested in a plaintiff’s side Fifth Circuit employment appeal? DM or email me if interested. #lawtwitter #appellatetwitter

@KatzD Yep. I’ve wondered if the requests for mistrial might slow down.
English

@ryanclinton I would go one step further. Now that jeopardy has attached, it would be malpractice to seek mandamus for a mistrial because at this point they are playing with house money. The jury quits it’s over, the jury convicts the verdict will be overturned leading to a new trial.
