Memphis spent in the $4.5-5 million range for their roster last season. 20+ teams spent 2x what they did last season. In fact, I’m told even a few non-P5s have more to spend this upcoming year than Memphis spent last year. Now, the market is up roughly 35% from last offseason + more schools are already upping their rev share/NIL commitments for this next season. Memphis MBB is already at a significant disadvantage in terms of resources in their tier of programs (due to failure to having an adequate plan for rev share environment). Non-P5s are gaining ground, while P5s are separating themselves. This is why identifying/evaluating talent is even more important for them. It’s their only way to make up ground on teams they used to outspend + outrecruit.

First place USF Basketball are favored tonight at Memphis by 6.5. Nationally televised on ESPN2. 9pm et. Memphis has lost 6 games in a row. They are 12-17. I originally thought Penny would get another year or two at least, but, if you end the season on an L8 streak, does Penny survive that? and if they top that L8 with a quick loss in the AC tourney.... anyways, Bulls by 10 tonight.
