my brand that’s <13 months old is launching Whole Foods nationwide without a big, sexy 7 figure raise. how is that even possible? 1. strong lending partners we have invoice factoring and PO financing at <12% APR, making it a clear no brainer to free up working capital 2. prioritized strong unit economics (50%+) and bicoastal manufacturing and fulfillment to not get crushed on freight 3. trial + retention we invest a lot in upfront trial (mfg coupons, aisle, demos) and have strong repeat 4. a2 dairy is on trend people are generally moving back towards real sources of meat and dairy, and don’t have many options in the coffee set that aren’t alt milk based. most of the alt milk options also have oils (sunflower, canola) which isn’t great for people trying to avoid inflammation

@evancharles I’m a Chicagoan who thought I knew every cracker company out of the city - Every Body Eat?

For example, recently I invested in a CPG company in Chicago, something I would typically stay away from, but the founders are 11/10 passionate and executing at the speed of hackers in SF. (They might be making crackers but they are indeed cracked.)

I’ve done much better as a lone investor after leaving KV, and since some investors follow me, I thought I’d share why I think that is. I wish I knew this 5 years ago.
