Echoes of War
Echoes of War@EchoesofWarYT·
251 years ago today, a British warship sailed into Boston Harbor carrying three generals who were about to lose the American colonies for the British Empire. The ship was HMS Cerberus. She was a 28 gun frigate under Captain John Chads, and she had crossed the Atlantic with reinforcements for General Thomas Gage, who was bottled up inside Boston by an angry militia army camped on the hills around the city. Below decks were close to 2,000 fresh redcoats. On the quarterdeck were three men whose names every American schoolchild used to know. Major General William Howe. Major General John Burgoyne. Major General Henry Clinton. This is the same Howe who would lose Trenton to Washington on Christmas night 1776. The same Burgoyne who would march an entire British army into a trap at Saratoga in 1777 and surrender it. The same Clinton who would inherit command, lose the South, and spend the rest of his life writing memoirs blaming everyone else for Yorktown. All three of them. On the same ship. On the same day. Sailing into the same harbor. The Bostonians noticed. Cerberus, in Greek mythology, is the three headed dog that guards the gates of Hades. He has one head for each of the three judges of the dead. He lets souls in. He does not let them out. An anonymous local wit, classically educated enough to catch the joke, wrote a couplet that went viral in 1775 the way a meme goes viral now. Hand copied. Read aloud in coffeehouses. Passed in letters from Boston to Philadelphia to Charleston. It went like this. Behold the Cerberus the Atlantic plough, Her precious cargo Burgoyne, Clinton, Howe. Bow, wow, wow. That is the entire poem. Three lines. A barking dog. And the suggestion, in 1775, that the three most powerful field commanders the British Empire could send across the ocean were yappy little nothings. Inside two and a half years, the poem turned out to be right. Howe took Philadelphia in 1777 and could not hold it. Burgoyne surrendered an entire field army at Saratoga in October of that year. The Saratoga surrender brought France into the war on the American side, which is the single decisive event of the Revolution. Clinton spent the war never quite committing enough force to finish anyone off, and watched Cornwallis get trapped at Yorktown without sending the relief fleet in time. The Empire lost the war on May 25, 1775. It just took the rest of the Empire eight years to notice. Cerberus, the ship, was burned by her own crew in 1778 to keep her out of French hands in Narragansett Bay. The wreck still sits on the bottom of the Sakonnet River. You can dive it. Three heads. Three generals. One war.

Top of the 6th tie game. Kid crushes a HR off my pitcher. Kid’s pumped & celebrating running around the bases & misses 3rd on the way home for a big celebration with his team I go out to the home plate ump “He never touched 3rd”. Ump says “You can appeal coach” Tell my pitcher throw the ball to 3rd and my 3rd baseman to step on 3rd They do “OUT! Batter did not step on 3rd base” I’ve never heard a little league baseball field get so quite Taking a HR away from a 10 year old does not feel good if you’re wondering

Amazon employees are using the company’s internal AI agent platform, MeshClaw, to run unnecessary tasks. They are doing this to inflate their AI token usage, climb internal leaderboards, and signal strong adoption to managers. Amazon set targets requiring more than 80% of devs to use AI tools each week and began tracking token consumption on company-wide leaderboards. In response, some staff have started what is being called “tokenmaxxing” deliberately maximizing AI usage on low-value or pointless activities to improve their standing. MeshClaw allows employees to create AI agents that can handle emails, Slack messages, code deployments, and other workflows. While the tool was built to reduce repetitive work it is now also being used to generate artificial activity. Amazon has told staff that these usage statistics will not be used in performance reviews. However, employees report feeling significant pressure, with managers reportedly monitoring the data despite official guidance.

BREAKING: The SEC just officially eliminated the $25,000 minimum rule for day trading. This is the biggest change to retail trading in 24 years. Since 2001, if you wanted to make more than 3 day trades in a 5 day period, you needed at least $25,000 sitting in your account at all times. If you dropped below that, your broker would lock you out of day trading completely. This rule blocked millions of retail traders from actively participating in markets simply because they did not have enough capital. That rule is now gone. The SEC today approved FINRA's proposed change which replaces the fixed $25,000 requirement with a real time margin system. Instead of a fixed dollar threshold, brokers will now monitor your actual risk exposure throughout the day and adjust your buying power based on the real risk of your positions, not an arbitrary account balance. Now you no longer need $25,000 to day trade. You just need enough margin to cover the actual risk of your open positions.

@unusual_whales I believe day trading should be banned, as it turns investing into gambling and fosters a trading culture akin to the Reddit GameStop phenomenon. If all you want to do is place various small bets on a daily basis, go to Polymarket or Kalshi instead

At a local burrito place that I love. Employee: Rips 2 inch hole in burrito while rolling it and then tries to wrap it in foil quickly. Me: "Can you double wrap that please?" Employee: "That will be extra, is that okay?" Me: "There is a massive hole in the burrito?" Employee: "We will re wrap it with a new tortilla but double wrap is extra" Me: "Uh..." Employee: Takes burrito and sets it aside so someone can fix it. Instead of double wrapping he burrito, they made a new tortilla and then dumped the burrito into the new tortilla and then threw the old Tortilla away. Because the double wrap would be extra... Make it make sense....

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The U.S. didn't just outgun Iran's air defenses. It made them hallucinate. Hundreds of miniature decoy drones were launched to flood Iranian radar screens with fake squadrons of F-15s and F-16s. While operators panicked chasing ghosts, F-35s and F-22s slipped through completely undetected. The same electronic warfare was used in Venezuela. A carrier off the coast fired such a dense electronic barrage that it burned S-300 radar screens white. Operators were blind before the first Tomahawk hit. Then there's the classified part. In Caracas, disc-shaped devices on Black Hawks reportedly fired microwave pulses that caused guards to collapse with vertigo, nosebleeds, and nausea, without a single shot fired. 20 operators walked through hundreds of incapacitated guards. This is what a $1 trillion military budget actually buys. Source: AiTelly on YT

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 Before a single U.S. fighter enters Iranian airspace, this small jet goes in first. The EA-18G Growler is the tip of the spear. It can overwhelm enemy radar with spot jamming, project a digital clone of itself to trick missiles into chasing a ghost, or beam entire fleets of fake jets onto enemy screens. Source: AiTelly on YT

On my first cruise in 1993 doing Operation Southern Watch, we'd often carry what we called a "stinger Sparrow" in that aft belly station, making the load 2/3/2 (Phoenix, Sparrow, Sidewinder). I never carried all Sparrow but from what I'm told it was VERY low drag so the jet was pretty fast......

This thing is quite hilarious when you think about it. You claim to love a person, yes? That person signs a multi-million-dollar contract and, having seen what has happened to others before him, decides to protect himself by initiating a prenup agreement. You say you love him. You want forever with him. Most importantly, you insist you are not after his money. So why not simply sign the agreement? But you refuse. And in that refusal the truth reveals itself. It was never really him you loved; it was what being with him provided, and what it promised to continue providing.
