The LDS Church allows for abortion in the event of rape, incest or the health of the mother. If I were to give Republicans additional power, I would have to trust that their abortion laws would respect those exceptions. And to be frank, Republicans. I do NOT trust you AT ALL.

@sermons_com @caitlinmwhite1 @j_divis My LDS grandma used to do this. "The heavenly father", "the BYU". It sounded quaint / outdated to me. But seeing your perspective is triggered this memory. Are you saying that putting "the" in front somehow makes him less of a direct spirit father? Bizarre.

I've learned that LDS does this to refer to the heretical belief of humans being gods, like Jesus and God the Father. Using "Heavenly Father" without the article "the" indicates spiritual parentage, as supported by LDS teachings on God's role as the father of human spirits who can also ascend to be like Jesus or God the Father who were also once human. Also, a gross heresy. To answer you question grammatically: English allows dropping "the" before titles like "Heavenly Father" when used as a term of address ("Heavenly Father, hear us") or with a possessive ("our Heavenly Father loves us") — this is standard across Christianity. But when it's a standalone reference to God (not addressing Him or possessing), mainstream usage strongly prefers "the Heavenly Father" or rephrasing to avoid bare "Heavenly Father" sounding like a proper name without context. Outside of the LDS community if you refer to God without the article "the" you will get a raised eyebrow or two, tipping people off that your christian views are suspect.

If Heavenly Father called a prophet today, would you follow him? In case you didn’t know, He has called a prophet, and he leads The Church of Jesus Christ. Pray to Heavenly Father and ask Him if Dallin H. Oaks is a prophet.

Your “faith crisis” is happening because you have never read your scriptures outside of a few verses from the four gospels. It was inevitable.
