(But… that transliteration is hilariously bad. I mean, sure, any Urdu transliteration of “jalapeno” will be comical, but the rest could have been actual Urdu, no?

This is probably the first time I’ve seen Noto Nastaliq Urdu being used for packaging.

Been trying for a while to get back to blogging, so in order to warm up, here’s an old Twitter thread as a blog post: The nostalgic sewing machine manual — saadatmand.pk/blog/the-nosta…

@saadatm The rest of the work is off the record, and has probably happened over email communication. But the result of that has definitely been included in the then Section 8.2 (now 9.2), since the Action Item has been closed. This is very probably the result:

@roozbehp I'm probably missing something obvious, but is there a way to search for the responses/replies to a UTC document? For example, take L2/10-168 (unicode.org/L2/L2010/10168…) : I can't find what the resolution to its suggestions was. Any pointers, please? 🙂

Examining the CSS further, Noto Nastaliq Urdu is also being used for Shahmukhi Punjabi. And a lot of other language-specific fonts (mostly from Noto fonts) are in there, too, which is lovely!

(2) That CSS selector with the repeated `:lang(ur)` pseudo-classes (marked “a” in the screenshot) to override the line-height from the abomination below (marked “b”). Somebody *really* wanted to avoid using `!important`. 🤭

Not sure when this started happening, but Google Translate now uses Noto Nastaliq Urdu for the Urdu language. 👍🏽
