@Peters_Glen I can’t look zoomers and their families in the eye and say we just gave up studying if we could restore the climate and remove all anthropogenic emissions by the end of their lifetimes and thought that ~ 1.5ºC is good enough.

open.substack.com/pub/safiume/p/… Happy to finish my playbook on achieving an accelerated Net Zero. Here’s a substack post introducing the playbook, outlining the why, why this take is different and why that matters.

Want to know operationally what we need to do to accelerate to Net Zero? Why Solar PV holding ~24–27% CAGR through ~2032 matters? Why Net Zero ASAP? What finance can unlock more clean growth for the Global South? Why do we need a full fossil phase-out? luma.com/b5ya948h

That was built assuming a maximally scaled, green growth sustainable development defined as an economic development that's built on zero-carbon intensity energy and economic systems, zero-waste circular economy, ecosystems rehabilitation, preservation, and expansion.

I'd like to hope we haven't lost our chance to have that climate of our grandparents, but as we are no where close to a majority of progress to net0 by early 2030s (to avoid overshoot), the chances to have that climate look quite slim. ⁦@dwallacewells⁩ ⁦@GeorgeTakei

@NickCowern @Silcrete For the monthly high, yes. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how long we have before the monthlies consistently exceed 1.5 °C and bring the global average over a few years to 1.5 °C. (The rest of the carbon budget, minus some for El Niño and solar insolation?)

@safiume @Silcrete I think we are already at or approaching 1.5°C (September was 1.8°C). But the points you make are good ones.

This is unbearable. By the time my six year-old grandson reaches 18 we could already be at 2°C in a world that's unrecognisable for us now. Why can't politicians see this?

@NickCowern @Silcrete We’re rapidly approaching a global average of 1.5ºC but not making fast enough progress to net zero (even to head off overshoot).

@NickCowern @Silcrete Is there a way to do this with minimal economic shocks but maximum deployment of Renewables and electrification of transport, industry, residential, and buildings?
