A lot of people are just violently sexist but they don't see themselves as such because they don't want to murder women themselves. That's about it. It's the extent of rights people think women deserve. The right to not be murdered. The right to a free dignified life is too much.

A lot of people are forgetting that until recent years, people (esp in the West) saw Iranians as "terrorists" and synonymous w their government. The work of Iranian artists didn't "orientalize" Iranians. It humanized them

I’m so tired of leftists especially leftist men completely disregarding the plight of women from the global south or even worse expecting them to shut up & endure for the “greater good”

Not really. I don't think Marjane Satrapi's work portrays Iranians as terrorists. Since she, her family, and many people she cares about are Iranians, who are portrayed in her work, and most of them are not terrorists. The issue is that you identify with the Islamic republic.
AE 🎒@bobbyknucksss

@saharasajjadii They saw Iranians as terrorists partly because of these very artists + legacy media propaganda. Even the average Iranian. Never forget to the west you are just a brown foreigner.

Marjane Satrapi is such a big loss for Iranian girls everywhere like myself. She was the first person to help me see my own experiences as an Iranian woman through a feminist lens. None of the women in my family thought me what she taught me.

RIP Marjane Satrapi, the great cartoonist and film director, best known for PERSEPOLIS. She was only 56. A great talent. She will be missed.
