@exQUIZitely Oh, I had totally forgotten about Der Patrizier. Some of these games really should get a refresh like they did for Master of Magic (which I played for years using a DOS Box).

Learning by playing? Granted, most games are "just for fun" - but some games were more than that. They were - foremost - great games, but they also had educational value. What are your memories of games that were both great and added some educational value? Here are some that had an impact on me beyond just the pure game experience. Civilization - gave me a glimpse into history, and the basic evolution of technology and science. Railroad Tycoon - was great for train nerds like me, learning about the history of the steam engine and its evolution to modern day trains. Capitalism 2 - taught me a lot about economic principles, supply and demand, etc. Sim Earth - not an easy game but an incredible simulation of a time before humans populated this rock, how nature impacts on species and life in general. Colonization - a glimpse into how our world was shaped, not too long ago, what trades and skills were needed, how settlements grew. Sim City 2000 - maybe being a mayor of a huge city isn't so easy after all? Maybe that's why heavy industry isn't bordering on luxury housing estates? Der Patrizier (The Patrician) - a view into German trade and politics before the steam engine revolutionized everything. King's Quest - as a placeholder for all adventure games that I played, including the early Infocom text adventures, helping me a lot to learn the English language. What are your memories of games that were both great and added some educational value?

@exQUIZitely I somehow missed BG1. Started with 2 and then got 1 right after. Don't know how often I played those two through continuously.

When I first read about a game called Baldur's Gate in one of the many print magazines still around in the 90s, I started counting the days until its release. As an old-school pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons player from the 80s (and well into the 90s), I couldn’t wait to get lost in what promised to be the best RPG set in the wonderful world of Faerûn. I pre-ordered it at a local store and checked in almost daily as the release date neared. They probably thought I was a bit odd. I didn’t care. The anticipation, the agony of waiting, the joy when it finally arrived, the first time opening the box, installing the game while inhaling the manual… And then the first time the game loaded on screen… unforgettable memories. Baldur’s Gate was like crack for D&D nerds like me. If you’re an RPG fan, I’m sure you know the feeling.

@exQUIZitely Always the Pyramids first. Loved that little video. I also remember building the Great Library quite a bit.

Which three wonders where your "go to" ones in Civilization (MicroProse, 1991), and which other three did you hardly ever care for? My "go to" ones were: Darwin's Voyage J.S. Bach's Cathedral Hoover Dam I didn't really see the massive benefit of the heavy investment into Lighthouse, Hanging Gardens and Oracle, since they were obsolete too fast.

You can argue that Defender of the Crown wasn’t the most complex game of all time. Some of the characters were overpowered in certain disciplines (e.g. jousting). However, what truly amazes me to this day is what the artist Jim Sachs was able to create - there are so very few games that had such a lasting impression on me based their visual power. Defender of the Crown (screenshots from the Amiga version) looks like something from a totally different league, more art than game. The pixel style, the incredible choice and composition of colours, the sheer endless imagination it evokes - it’s almost impossible to find the right words. The autumn colours, the highly skilled use of shadows, the depth with the clouds in the background, and the warmth of the flames… I could look at these images forever. I believe this was drawn pixel by pixel before tools like Deluxe Paint existed. To me this is perfection and unmatched for its era.

Did our yearly high tea at the @WHotelBrisbane. Food was delicious as always but tea was limited to one pot per person! Plus only one gingerbread house to share between 4 people. Not sure we'll be back next year.

@exquizitely Dragon Age Inquisition but if you count time spent on a series, Civ definitely beats out DA. :D

Which game ranks at #1 in terms of hours played? Mine would be Civilization (MicroProse, 1991). What about you?

@Dragon_Age_Fans A DLC for TV where it is revealed that it was all a fever dream and the DLC is an introduction to what really happened.

Today's Dragon Age Poll: Poof! You're in charge of a secret project at BW to create a new, secret DLC for one of the DA games. You've a VERY generous budget and a full dev team. What game is getting a new DLC? (Must be a new DLC no refreshes!)

@Dragon_Age_Fans One playthrough of DATV. Might stay the only one. Don't really feel like having to click through all those therapy sessions again. :/

@Dragon_Age_Fans Does it involve lots of extra time with the inquisitor and Solas? Then probably yes. 😁

@Dragon_Age_Fans The hair was great but I found it practically impossible to make a beautiful character in DATV.

@kateStrasdin Kitten d'Amour's Joie De Vivre collection seems to be based on that.

It just needs a pair of bobby socks & some plimsolls, with maybe a pastel cardigan draped across the shoulders or more likely an admirer’s jacket. Norman Norell’s early 1950s rose printed summer dress has all the hallmarks of Sandra Dee on the lookout for Danny, Uni of N Texas

If your Dragon Age OCs weren't able to romance their partners in their respective games, who do you think they'd romance instead?

@Dragon_Age_Fans Once for completion purposes, way before Trespasser came out. The playthrough became bugged though and I could never complete it. Wasn't sorry about that. 😁
