@Hadley Solid advice over all. Some pre-seed startups I work with are seeing committed angel investors pull out since they tend to have more exposure to stock market than VC’s do.

There’s a lot of crazy shit going on in the macro environment right now, but for most startup founders, it’ll have little to no effect on what they need to do in the near term. Focus on execution. Focus on customers. Block out the noise.

Caught up with an experienced founder raising a seed round. He Talked to 10 quality investors but many pushed back on the GTM. The question is…does he stop fundraising and address the GTM issue or forge ahead knowing that if he talks to 100 investors, he will find a lead? I’m genuinely on the fence 👀

Huge business news! 🚨 Last night’s State of the Union address, President Trump suggested he would reinstate bonus depreciation retroactively to January 1, 2025. Bonus depreciation allows businesses to immediately deduct a large percentage of the cost of qualifying assets in the year they are placed in service, rather than spreading the deduction over several years. It falls under Section 168(k) of the Internal Revenue Code. Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, businesses could deduct 100% of certain asset purchases, but this benefit has been gradually phasing out. Reinstating bonus depreciation would make it easier for businesses to invest in equipment, technology, and infrastructure. This move would likely spur economic growth by encouraging companies to spend more, expand faster, and create jobs. Note that reinstating bonus depreciation isn’t something the president can do alone. It would require an act of Congress to change the tax code and restore 100% bonus depreciation. That means both the House and Senate would need to pass legislation, and the president would have to sign it into law. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.

Be careful of the bait-and-switch fundraising scam. Basically, an "investor" contacts you, you get on a call with them, and at some point, during the call, they start to pitch YOU their fundraising services. You got it - they're not investors, they're fundraising advisors. And you're in a sales call you never asked for. I hate this hypocritical, time-wasting practice with a passion. And you should, too.
