Tomorrow is Monday, and we will be heading into the first full week of the LIRR strike. Tens of thousands of working people from the boroughs and Long Island who depend on the railroad will now have to commute into the city without any adequate public transit. These people don't deserve to be further penalized because of a strike that they have nothing to do with. That's why I'm calling on Governor Hochul to suspend congestion pricing for the duration of the LIRR strike. It would be supremely unfair to pick the pockets of working New Yorkers who ordinarily depend on the LIRR for their commute, but now are left with no good options other than driving. And the MTA should not be making a windfall on the backs of working people as a result of their own failure to negotiate a contract with LIRR employees. This should not be a partisan issue and I hope other city and state officials will join me in demanding Governor Hochul suspend congestion pricing on an emergency basis until the LIRR strike is resolved and full service returns.
