@ciaranfenton @halbers1960 Not really! In what situations should they be acting independently? They are different from external counsel - and rightly so - that why they’re employed. This tends to promulgate the “Ivory Tower” which is helpful to no one.

@sallyfguyer @halbers1960 Thanks Sally. I agree that IHLs need to business people but second only to their obligation under LGA07 to uphold the rule of law and act with independence in respect of their employers. Make sense?

A proposal for in-house lawyers and their employers: In-house lawyers play a key role in their organisations, bringing much to their work, including beyond their core legal experience. But their primary role is to practice law. /1
