One of the most hilarious / tragic psychological phenomena I've seen is the "no true software engineer" (no true Scotsman) fallacy / gaslight. I've never in my life seen any other profession that berates, chastises, gaslights, humiliates, mocks, gatekeeps, and moves the goalpost more on members of their own profession than devs. Oh you don't know how to do this random thing, despite knowing thousands of other things and having thousands of hours of experience? You're not a REAL software engineer. Oh you got laid off? Haha you're not a REAL software engineer. It's insanely foolish and shortsighted. They could do much better if they banded together and helped eachother like other gilded professions (lawyers, doctors). Please have some sympathy for people who are getting laid off and losing everything (their healthcare, homes, maybe their families, possibly their sanity, dignity).

I don't see anything wrong with optional chaining though. Especially dealing with async, potentially null data that I have no full control over? Optional chaining is that easy fix

I have a few 20+ year friendships and they require a lot of intention and effort especially as you evolve throughout the years. But sometimes someone you met last year can align more with who you are now and that’s ok too.

Add both people being reasonable and thoughtful and I'm 100% onboard. I see so many couples that are unable to move past issues because one or both people are incapable of thinking of the other or making a compromise.
