@SahilBloom What's the plan post-marathon? Will you keep your running fitness up to run Boston 2024?

Tons of replies asking for my training plan. If there’s enough interest, I’m happy to share my full plan—running, lifting, and recovery—in a post. Short answer, every week was: • 3 slow runs • 1 track workout • 1 tempo run • 1 long run • 4 lifts to maintain muscle mass

Marathon Time: 2:57:31 First Marathon ✅ Boston Qualified ✅ Pain & Suffering ✅ When I started running in March, I set an ambitious goal to run a sub 3-hour marathon within 6 months. 1,200 miles of grueling training later, I got it done. Let’s. Go.

Since starting a mentoring rule with a new junior dev at work, I've picked up a book I bought myself when I started learning Ruby: Eloquent Ruby by @russolsen. I've been really enjoying relearning the basics from "The-Ruby-way" standpoint. Always pays to keep learning.

I'm not a hermit, I do get out the house for sport, social, etc. But I'm wondering if working from a co-working space once a week might improve my immune response to bugs.

Any folk who work from home with small kids in the house struggle with getting ill a lot? I used to almost never get ill (pre-kids, working in an office) and now seem to pick up most things the kids bring back from nursery. Currently on my second stomach bug this month.

@BrettFromDJ No fast food is gonna be a killer. Get ready for some serious withdrawals. Good luck with it though.

I’m insanely unhealthy. Never work out. Never drink water. Eat out for every meal. Today I’m starting 75 “Soft”: - 45 min workout - 1 gallon of water - 10 pages of a nonfiction book - no fast food/junk food. 75 days straight. Pray for me.

Ooh this is both genius and fear-inducing 😆. There's so much useful insight to gain from this process, but I imagine most (me included) will eschew it citing not enough time.

There's close passes and then there's this. Cyclist lucky he came out of this physically unscathed. There's some cretins on the roads.

@samdkingdev This sounds wonderful. Can you show me a template I can use to start doing this journaling? I have no idea where to start or what to write or track.

My 5 big take takeaways: 1. Talk about your day. Your future self enjoys reading about your past self's routines and how you felt about them. 2. Log anything and everything. What seems entirely insignificant today can reveal a key trend over a year.

Sometimes you listen to a podcast and it just hits differently. The recent "Refurbishing bikes, rebuilding lives" episode from @podstreetsahead was one of those. Wholesome and top interviewing. @nedboulting - where have I heard your familiar tones before? Do you do TV commentary?

5. Document your kids' development. Not only is this information wonderful to look back on, but it serves as an ongoing nudge to go play with your kids and really connect with them.

4. Track the days you're so ill you can't function. I use a simple checkbox in Notion, hidden by default. This is a valuable metric I like to reflect on at the end of the year. Also; talk candidly about your mental state of mind. Health is key.

@JuliaLaite That's crazy! I've never seen a chair without a tray on the back. Is this just cost-cutting?
