@MichaelSFuhrer @Thoughtfulnz Yes they did. Eyeballing the Economist's chart, Australia's surge in Dec 2022 is a major contributor to the divergence in the cumulative lines.

@MichaelSFuhrer @Thoughtfulnz I think that's not the whole story ... NZ then had almost a couple more months to vaccinate before the omicron wave. A lot of boosters went out in January 2022.

Western Australia's pattern looks a lot like New Zealand's, or even better (data not shown :-) )

@MichaelSFuhrer @Thoughtfulnz If that's so, maybe the fault is with the standardisation to WHO population - which is very young. It will (for example) give a huge weighting to the 2019 Christchurch mosque murders. @Thoughtfulnz have you tried standardising to Denmark or NZ's population?
