@ArtemisConsort Do you have sources on these claims? Would love to have them available when I talk to social constructionists

Men and women are psychologically different on average, and the more dimensions you consider simultaneously the more stark this difference becomes. We find it in every culture, and it persists as societies liberalize. We find it in other great ape species. We find it in pre-verbal children. The idea that this is all socially constructed is an unfalsifiable conspiracy theory. Whether or not a biological view of sex differences is “progressive,” it’s true.
Dhaaruni ✨✨✨@dhaaruni

Physical sex differences are real, but men and women aren't "wired differently", they're socialized differently; and gender essentialism is and never has been remotely progressive!

How climate “scientists” deceive people with statistics: Figure 6.5 from the 4th National Climate Assessment (NCA4) shows that the 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜 of record high temperature occurrences to record lows in the United States has increased significantly since 1930. The authors imply that this is incontrovertible evidence that record high temperatures are occurring more often now than they used to, saying, 🗨️ “𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒔 [sic] 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒-1970𝑠 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒔 [sic] 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝐵𝑦 𝑒𝑥𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑛 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑑 ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑑 𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑠. 𝑂𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜 𝑒𝑥𝑐𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑠 𝑡𝑤𝑜 (𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡𝑤𝑖𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑦 ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ-𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑠𝑒𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑙𝑜𝑤-𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑠). 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑛𝑒𝑤 ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑠 𝑖𝑛 15 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡 20 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 2012 𝑎𝑛𝑑 2016 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑦 𝑒𝑥𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒 (𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑖𝑣𝑒, 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑦).” 🔗 ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/… I wanted to reproduce this chart, so I took the liberty to download all NOAA GHCNd station files. I then selected all United States stations and filtered them so that I could examine records from long-term stations (which NCA4 did, although to my knowledge, they didn't define their criteria). Using my judgement, I selected all 711 stations that have at least 100 years of daily data with at least 85% of daily observations available (i.e., no more than 15% of days missing in the records). Finally, I wrote a Python script to analyze daily record high maximums and low minimums and count the number by year set (including all tied records where applicable), then ran the analysis from 1895 to 2024 (since 2025 is not fully in). As it turns out, the number of record high temperatures have not increased since 1895. In fact, they have decreased since the 1950s (see top panel of figure on the right). The number of record lows (middle panel) have decreased too, but sharply since the late 1980s. Because of that, if you compute these raw values as a ratio with record lows in the denominator, it produces a sharp increase in the ratio of record high to low temperature records after 1990. That's what NCA4 did, and I was able to produce a very similar plot to verify that. So, while NCA4 didn't lie, they mislead people by using ratios. The IPCC does the same thing with hurricane statistics.

@AviBittMD I wonder if there's been an increase in the white demographic/decrease in the others over time and if this has caused a perceptual change that it's all white women getting abortions now. Any idea how the demographic breakdowns trend over time?

This might just be me, but I nearly always found my performance as a student to be best when I didn't take notes at all (written or typed) and simply focused all my mental effort on seeing, listening, and understanding the material. Everyone to my left and right were furiously scribbling away and it seemed they were more focused on the task of replicating the material on a piece of paper than actually absorbing it in their minds.
Adam Grant@AdamMGrant

It's time to remove laptops from classrooms. 24 experiments: Students learn more and get better grades after taking notes by hand than typing. It's not just because they're less distracted—writing enables deeper processing and more images. The pen is mightier than the keyboard.

Listening to a party next door. Woman: “you seem fertile, can I say that? Like, girls, doesn’t he seem fertile to you?” Now he’s talking about how he only has one descended testicle, the details of spermatogenesis (including that term). Incredible fumble.

@alexandrosM Yeah he dismissed the idea that the FCC pressured them. I've seen elsewhere people claim the FCC simply notified ABC he had broken their rules and then ABC made the decision. I hadn't seen the context with Carr you provided until after my initial post. Agree with your take

@Chronos_Carried I abhor political violence. I disagree with Charlie Kirk on most things, but I condemn his murder. That said, this video is comically disingenuous and it takes all of 15 minutes of looking into the context to see that.
