I do think if his playoff numbers were the same as his regular season numbers most people wouldn’t have cared he’ll have an even better year next year, and I’d be shocked if he’s not on 1st team All D and an All NBA squad

in convos w/ ppl who had votes I always advocated for Scottie top 3 dpoy, 1st team all defense, 3rd team all nba the online reaction to his award placements means the playoffs really moved huge swaths of people, because he had very little advocacy in the regular szn

@HPbasketball @samfolkk To my knowledge, Samson hasn't even commented on any of this. So I don't really think he deserved that either. In the podcast, we were just trying to discuss basketball and answer a mailbag question about the effects of falling. I don't think I'm superior. Quite the opposite.

I wrote this in part because so much of the "discourse" I've seen has actually been superior-acting hoops fans looking down on how people dislike OKC. I also wrote it because I think Game 3 was one of the all-time best performances by an NBA champion on their path to a repeat. I tried, at leas, to inject as much praise for OKC as explanation for why everyone is so annoyed by them. One thing I missed, though, that I don't have a good handle on because I'm not cool either, is that they are not cool. That coolness factor I think really kills them, and it's not about the market, it's a feature for OKC as a culture, not a bug.

At the Substack, I wanted to write on why so many people feel the way they do about OKC despite it not matching reality, if that matters, and how that will feel in time. It's a folk tale because those stories are often myths. But they also carry with them something real in the moment that shapes us.

Scottie should’ve been first team all defense but you take what you can get I suppose

Cavs look like a very milquetoast defense not a lot of bite, passive when they should be aggressive, and in general doing a pretty bad job of supporting their teammates with rotation for the full shot clock back to Cleveland, we’ll see

On Scottie’s star turn in the playoffs, the outdated conceptions of easy teambuilding, and turning up the pressure on the Raptors front office: “Barnes is a maelstrom of impact and production, but he does need things to work with.” raptorsrepublic.com/2026/05/20/sco…
