@militaryhistori I spent many a summer holiday in my youth nearby in Whitsand Bay where my nan lives, often visiting Polperro. She was a child evacuee from London during the war and was sent to the South West, later moving there as an adult. A beautiful part of the world, lots of SWW history too.

The First World War miraculously produced all sorts of high culture. But every year on this day it is worth watching the ending of the greatest sitcom, which somehow managed to catch the tone of remembrance exactly, perfectly right.
