Whisper it quietly but Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards have used this transition season to almost completely rebuild Liverpool’s spine. Ekitike, Wirtz, Kerkez, Frimpong have all starting performing at high levels now and will only get better. Isak had just started kicking on before his injury and he should be back for the latter stages of the CL so he could still have a big impact on our season. Now we’ve gone out and signed one of THE elite young CBs in word football for the summer, to join Giovanni Leoni, one of the other elite CB prospects. We’ve also signed 18 year old Mor Talla Ndiaye to join our U21 squad, along with 17 year old Ifeanyi Ndukwe, two more absolutely elite level young CBs who will develop in our academy before pushing to step into the first team, probably just as Virgil starts to think about retiring or moving somewhere for the final few years of his career. All in all, while everyone has been at home complaining about Liverpool’s season, Hughes and Edwards haven’t skipped a beat, making sure that the mid-long term prospects of our team are secured, even if this season hasn’t gone exactly to plan.
