🧵for new residents and students: Over the last year, I've done 9 threads on different suture materials. Included here are links to each of these. I'll leave this 'pinned' for now. They are: Prolene, silk, Vicryl, PDS, Ethibond, Nylon, Monocryl, Chromic, and barbed sutures.

@rbarbosa91 I was always taught to do a B-Lynch with #1 chromic. I would worry about hernia risk through the loops (as the uterus decreases in size) with a longer lasting suture like PDS.

Addendum: Back to the large ones for a minute. #2 PDS exists and comes on a few different needles. It may be used to approximate ribs after thoracotomy (though I use Vicryl), and possibly has ob/gyn and orthopedic uses (I’m less familiar with these - B-Lynch suture maybe?)

@orneryscientist My favorite part is that, at my hospital, they made this change months ago but at first only for the residents. Now everyone else is finally going through it. For no clear reason… we’re just test dummies? Idk.
