Having spent my entire career (32 years and counting) in disadvantaged schools, with the most extraordinary colleagues who to a person were above and beyond “bothered”. I can’t believe we’re here again creating systems where that work is undervalued smithsmm.wordpress.com/2021/06/26/the…

@dave_mcpartlin @teacherhead @RPUffendell Ah being penalised for being vulnerable again and promoting the status of the privileged! Classic manoeuvre to ‘raise standards’ and lower the moral of the teaching population once more

I can't get my head around the idea that Ofsted would think the messaging this week was a good idea. Terrible PR/messaging, disrespectful & in poor taste. Didn't want to go back to my relentless Ofsted-bashing dark days but we need to use our voices to speak truth to power.

@tes I can see why the headline lands that way. The thrust of the piece is the opposite of a blame narrative: anxiety is a rational response for some families, and schools can reduce it with clarity, consistency, and earlier, warmer problem-solving

A lesson in hypocrisy and the politics of weaponising racism👇🏽 For over a decade my party have been mired in allegations of anti Muslim racism- choosing to brush cases under the carpet whilst calling out Labour for anti Jewish racism. In government my party adopted a non legally binding working definition of anti Jewish racism( antisemitism) and yet now play culture wars with the issue of adopting a non legally binding working definition of anti Muslim racism ( Islamophobia) This divisive politics of pitching community against community, treating people’s experience of bigotry differently and picking “good” minorities and “bad” minorities is even more distasteful when it’s from the mouths of those that should know better. Patriots unite and cause ease in our nation. Arsonists play the divisive politics of culture wars. We desperately need politicians that see all in this nation as having equal worth and value.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Labour are trying to draw up an extreme definition of Islamophobia in secret - with severe consequences for freedom of speech. The general public aren't even being allowed to submit evidence or share their views. My letter to the Deputy Prime Minister👇🏾

@TiceRichard You are going to eat more meat than you want to? Drive more miles than you need to? Seems a bit petty. I’d just live the life you want to rather than be triggered by the Mail.

@damian_from Should peace be negotiated at any cost? I don’t think people object to peace negotiations but about the manner that they are happening. Facilitating acts of aggression will lead to more. Peace deals made from fear will not last, they will not lead to true ‘peace’.

@RichardBuxton_ I liked Dyche’s pragmatism compared to some of his previous contemporaries but he really didn’t let the fog of fear lift. It’s amazing how DM has managed to instil confidence in the whole club. He’s passionate, yet measured and understands, I believe, a footballers confidence

@HeyPobble Convoluted curriculum that does not emphasise the basics of writing. W/ rising levels of SEND and disadvantage, not written for chn with barriers and is disconnected to the reality of the majority. Often viewed in old fashioned styles and presented in ways that are problematic

💬 The blog highlights that 28% of children are leaving primary school without meeting writing standards. What do you think is the biggest reason behind this trend?

We have ‘convenienced’ our lives to the point where we want to vote in laws or governments whenever the whim takes us! I thought this guy was trying to be a serious voice?! I’m not an admirer of this government but this sort of opinion is just futile and counterproductive

I just signed this petition calling for a general election to vote out this hideous Labour government —and so have nearly 1.5 MILLION people! petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7001…

So we're living at a time when the US is giving missiles to a country so that it fires them at Russia? Those of us who lived through the Cold War, were told that 'mutually assured destruction' ensured that this wouldn't happen. What now?

Freedom of speech is the bedrock of democracy. If the truth is suppressed, it is impossible to make an informed voting decision. The degree to which freedom of speech is being undermined around the world is extremely alarming.
