Exactly, and then have the situational awareness to know what is changing around them. Long running means they can read the code once and maintain that context for repeated edits. Short transactions in a multi agent environment means they need to maintain and update that context efficiently. Bunch of ideas around this and how a sync engine could provide that context as it changes within the "visible radius".

Applying database MVCC concepts to codebase management sounds amazing. database → codebase transaction → agent Imagine agents could take S and X locks on segments of code (line, function, class, etc) so each gets a consistent view of the world, even as many are simultaneously making edits. SERIALIZABLE but for code mutations.

What if a codebase was actually stored in Postgres and agents directly modified files by reading/writing to the DB? Code velocity has increased 3-5x. This will undoubtedly continue. PR review has already become a bottleneck for high output teams. Codebase checked-out on filesystem seems like a terrible primitive when you have 10-100-1000 agents writing code. Code is now high velocity data and should be modeled at such. Bare minimum, we need write-level atomicity and better coordination across agents, better synchronization primitives for subscribing to codebase state changes and real-time time file-level code lint/fmt/review. The current ~20 year old paradigm of git checkout/branch/push/pr/review/rebase ended Jan 2026. We need an entirely new foundational system for writing code if we’re really going to keep pace with scale laws.

As a family: culture, diversity, activity, choice. Getting up on a Saturday and having a million options for the weekend. For me: being where people are working on the same things as me. That human connection. We're privileged to (currently) live in a very beautiful middle England market town, but there is nothing happening, no new ideas, no drive to further themselves. People move here *from* London, most of our peers have, that only pushes us to do the opposite! You become the average of the people around you, I don't want that for me, and I don't want it for our kids.

@KentonVarda I've being finding that Codex seems more thorough on its first run, it's much less trigger happy with declaring the job done. Opus seems inclined to suggest its finishing and is prod ready before it really is. It's overly confident in itself.

I used Opus to write some security-sensitive code, then I reviewed it and found a few security bugs. As a test I asked Opus to review the code for security bugs. It found all the same bugs I found. Whelp.
