How I got MacOS to behave like windows.
TL;DR Karabiner & LinerMouse plus some Codex shortcuts
Keyboard & Karabiner
- Physical Left Control → Left Command
- Physical Control+Z/X/C/V → Command+Z/X/C/V
- Tap Caps Lock alone within 200 ms → Left Control
- Hold Caps Lock → QWERTY navigation/editing layer
- Caps+I/J/K/L → Up / Left / Down / Right
- Caps+Q → Escape
- Caps+Z/X/C → Command+Z/X/C
- Caps+A/S/D/F → Option / Shift / Control / Command layer modifiers
Mouse
- LinearMouse external-mouse pointer → acceleration disabled
- LinearMouse external-mouse wheel → conventional direction, fixed three-line vertical/horizontal steps, smoothing disabled
- LinearMouse trackpad pointer → acceleration disabled
- Trackpad scrolling → native continuous two-finger behavior
- Global natural scrolling → off
Codex voice shortcuts
- App-native voice start → Control+Command+Option+V
- Karabiner Caps+V → emits the app-native voice-start shortcut
- App-native microphone mute/unmute → Control+Command+Option+M
- Karabiner Caps+M → emits the app-native microphone shortcut
- Mute/unmute → requires the ChatGPT/Codex voice window to be focused

As a porridge enjoyer I can’t really argue with this take. I feel like a big bowl of oats and milk wouldn’t really constitute an acceptable breakfast anywhere outside of Britain. That’s ok, I’ll keep eating that garbage.

the big irony of all this is that I'm a defender of British cuisine. I've eaten several fry-ups on this trip, I've been to pubs with terrific food, but I submit that Brits still find comfort—just from time to time, maybe—in truly flavorless slop
