Now Reading: The Mind Illuminated by Culadasa (John Yates). I've been meditating without structure for a while now and I'm pretty sure went nowhere with it. Let's try this out. And funny how he thinks some peeps can reach enlightenment in a year. goodreads.com/book/show/2594…

Doing the reading is a superpower, and it's even better in a world where "no one" is doing the reading. (Inspired by a conversation I had with some college students.)

DocFX is seriously impressive. Building an MCP docs server on top of it was a breeze.

Nothing is dead/will be dead. Things will adapt and grow and so will you. As long as the world runs on money, everybody in power will make sure that things work out, businesses happen and money keeps flowing. Now is the time to focus on your craft and get better. Periodical demotivation is fine, we all go through it, but do not let the tweets/posts get to you. If you are passionate about learning something, do it.

I love this metaphor from Terence Tao—widely considered the world’s greatest living mathematician—about one of the drawbacks of using AI to solve hard math problems. theatlantic.com/technology/202…

Everyone talks about *having* taste, but no one talks about how to acquire it. There are no shortcuts, don’t fool yourself into thinking this is a great equalizer, the process is where the magic is.

@svembu This is a nice take. But also a lot of self-worth for middle economic background kids comes from striving to improve their and their families' financial standing. What is going to happen when there's no means to improve their economic value and standing by craft mastery?

If our notion of self-worth comes from the economic value we add, or if it comes our intellectual pretense (*cough*), AI may pose a serious challenge to our self-worth. On the other hand no one takes up activities like taking care of children, teaching children, taking care of the elderly, coming back to farming leaving a well paying job, going into the forest as rangers because they love the forest, local temple priests who do the daily rituals even when no one shows up at the temple, classical musicians who practise daily and perform for even very small crowds - none of them do it because those activities pay well. They will be unaffected by AI. Humanity may organize itself more towards such activity.

Maybe AI was just some elaborate ploy to get engineers to finally write tests and documentation

I occasionally have to keep reminding myself that I should focus and try to solve a problem before asking AI to do anything about it It's becoming more and more difficult to resist the urge to throw the problem at an LLM and ask it for a fix

CMOs/social media managers - what is the best alternative to @SproutSocial? It's getting too expensive and I don't need all of the features they are rolling out across other products. Was too expensive before, but now it's forcing my hand.

This kind of interview - giving a more ambitious task (in this case: built a web app with 2 backend endpoints and a frontend as you want, using AI if you want) is more common btw. Shopify has been doing it for 6+ months. Their Head of Engineering, @fnthawar on how its working: Full: newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/how-ai-is-ch…

@ACTFibernet I have been spammed with calls where I have to explain the issue from scratch every single time. I explicitly asked them to STOP CALLING and communicate via email. They ignored that and called me again. @ACTFibernet, do you not respect your customers?
