So you are saying that in a Chinese conflict, we will choke China via this point? You are very intelligent: you are fully aware that we have no bargaining power versus the Chinese. With $110 billion deficit, our economy runs on China and will close down if they turn off the taps. We have no cards versus them or versus America either. While we are on this subject, why did we so meekly give up on Gwadar? That was supposed to be a counter to CPEC Chabahar, right? I am not interested in the politics of Nicobar project. I am only questioning whether the strategic value you are writing about at all exists in reality given our weakness and meekness qua the 2 genuine superpowers

📢My new essay continues my work on the imp of the Great Nicobar project and in this essay I detail why India’s Great Nicobar Project is a strategic nightmare for the CCP’s maritime power projection. And China understands this only too well. Online link - sundayguardianlive.com/editors-choice…

This is a very good question - "How can Andaman & Nicobar forests affect heatwaves over mainland India?" 1) Key argument is that heatwaves over mainland India are primarily created by large-scale continental processes - (a) intense land heating, (b) subsiding dry air, and (c) persistent high-pressure systems over north and central India. The forests of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are too distant and limited in scale for their moisture contributions to meaningfully influence these dominant drivers. 2) Strong counter to this is that even small changes in moisture and convection in the Andaman–Bay region can have outsized effects because this zone helps initiate larger atmospheric systems. That's how climate systems work! A slight increases in humidity or convection near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands can trigger cloud formation or low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal, in turn influencing monsoon onset and disrupting heatwave conditions. In this nonlinear climate system, the islands’ importance lies in their position as a sensitive “trigger zone”. 3) These forests are moisture source contributers. Dense forests enhance evapotranspiration, adding moisture to air masses that move toward mainland India, slightly moderating heat intensity. 4) The islands sit in the Bay of Bengal and help condition incoming air with humidity before it reaches eastern India. Forest-driven humidity can support cloud formation over the Bay, which may reduce extreme pre-monsoon heating over eastern and central India. This is the "pre-Monsoon Convection Support". 5) Forests indirectly affect local sea surface temperature patterns by regulating coastal microclimates, which in turn influence broader atmospheric flows. 6) While distant, the islands are part of the larger Indo-Pacific climate system, contributing marginally to patterns that affect Indian heatwaves. Moist, forest-influenced air can dilute dry, hot continental air masses before they reach eastern India. 7) Summary? The forests of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands do not directly control mainland heatwaves, but contribute indirectly through moisture supply, atmospheric conditioning, and support to monsoon dynamics, effects that are subtle but climatologically very relevant. Do check the infographic in comment. #Nicobar #Andamans #Climate #Heatwave

Nowadays, I am so exposed as a reader to so much of revolting AI writing, where “A is not just/only/merely B, but also/more importantly C,” that I don’t think I will ever go back to using what used to be an innocent trope for us journalists: bug, not a feature.

“We were friends before we were soldiers, history made us enemies. War changed our uniforms, not our memories." Subedar Ghulam Muhammad, 15 Punjab regiment (Pakistan Army) greets Lt Col Anant Singh, CO 4 Sikh regiment (Indian Army), as he arrives at prisoner of the war camp near Lahore in 1965. It was the first meeting of the two since they fought together in World War II. They didn’t meet as Pakistani or Indian soldiers first, they met as old soldiers who remembered who they were before 1947.. They were forged together in the jungles of WWII, where survival mattered more than religion or flags, and that bond outlived Partition, borders, and even war itself. “We do not hate each other, we simply obey different commands.” Anant Singh used to lovingly call Ghulam Md "kumhaar da khhota."

Difference between Lata Mangeshkar & Asha Bhosle: If Lata was the voice of the times, Asha was its hidden desire. Lata’s voice personified sincerity, virtuousness, consent -- preferred and revered attributes of the time while Asha’s embodied wanting, abandon, dissent -- traits frowned upon at the time. Lata’s voice conveyed the innocence of a morning hymn, the sanctity of a temple. Asha’s carried the sizzle of a cabaret, the rush of a French kiss. Lata’s voice was the canon of the times, Asha’s a forecast of future freedoms. #AshaBhosle #LataMangeshkar @pra0902 @SameerAKhatlani @SunilWarrier1 @rasheedkidwai @ghazalawahab @Tweetnitins
