#WATCH | Mumbai | Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, Sanjeev Sanyal says, “The relative performance of the Indian states shows one or two very clear trends. The first is the much talk about the North-South divide, which is not the real economic crisis in the country… It is actually an East-West divide where the eastern half of India is distinctively poorer than the western half of the country… The key to the Eastern half of India is reviving Kolkata, specifically because the high growth all over the country is ultimately driven by a handful of high-growth urban hubs… In that context, eastern India needs a high growth hub… Kolkata already has some clusters and a long, glorious history. Despite the last half century of decline, I would argue that the secret to reviving the eastern half of India must be about the revival of Kolkata, specifically.”

@biswalsk22 @ANI Agree with you that politically bringing business back to Kolkata is tough and Odisha is fertile new ground with all the resources + natural, human and institutional - don't forget it was the first state to reform and privatise the electricity sector!

#Odisha Certainly not Kolkota which is going to remain hot bed of leftists and hardcore naxal infested exactly like Cuba.Idealism remaind deeply engraved in DNA there which makes any business unmanagable there. It is Bhubaneswar going to be next happening place with mineral rich hinterland and with proximity to hyderabad and skilled human resources.

@mjakbar Sir are u suggesting Pakistan be separated from Sindh- the home of its founding PM- in the South and Balochistan - already in revolt- in the North? Would Pakistan then not become Punjabistan?

Gen. Zia tried every military means to crush the Jiye Sind movement in Pakistan led by the redoubtable G.M. Syed (1904-1995). The dream of independence was never destroyed. Pakistan’s military adventurism has created conditions for a renewed demands for independence
